Advantech ASR-D501: What UAV Integrators Need to Check

Advantech’s ASR-D501 combines Qualcomm QCS6490 AI compute, five MIPI-CSI interfaces, CAN FD, 2.5 GbE, and drone software support on a 100 × 60 mm board.

Advantech’s original English announcement for the ASR-D501 is dated September 29, 2026. An official localized update followed on October 11, 2026.

The ASR-D501 is a companion and mission computer for unmanned aerial vehicles. It uses Qualcomm’s QCS6490 platform and provides local AI processing beside the flight controller.

Published Hardware

Item Advantech specification
Processor platform Qualcomm QCS6490
AI processing Up to 12.3 TOPS
Memory 8 GB LPDDR5
Storage 128 GB UFS
Board size 100 × 60 mm
Board weight Approximately 50 g, excluding the heat sink
Power input 5–12 V DC
Operating temperature -20°C to 70°C

Interfaces

  • Five four-lane MIPI-CSI camera interfaces
  • One 2.5 GbE port
  • Two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports
  • Two CAN FD channels
  • Three UART interfaces
  • Two I2C interfaces
  • GPIO
  • M.2 E-Key and M.2 B-Key expansion

The wireless configuration can use the M.2 expansion for Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, and 4G/5G options. The exact module, antennas, and regional approvals still need confirmation.

Software Stack

Advantech lists Ubuntu support and its Robotic Suite for Drone. The software stack connects ROS 2 applications with PX4 or ArduPilot through MAVLink, MAVSDK, and MAVROS.

This can shorten integration work, but it does not replace flight-control validation. Scheduling, sensor timestamps, watchdog behavior, and failure recovery remain system-level checks.

Engineering Checks Before Selection

  • Include the heat sink when calculating mass, height, and thermal resistance.
  • Check supply transients against the 5–12 V input range.
  • Confirm camera lane allocation and connector pinout.
  • Verify CAN FD termination and electrical isolation requirements.
  • Confirm the supported Ubuntu image and Robotic Suite release.
  • Validate cellular and Wi-Fi modules for the deployment region.
  • Test perception latency under the actual camera and AI workload.

The board’s stated mass excludes the heat sink. Procurement comparisons should not use 50 g as the installed system weight.

Where the Release Fits

The ASR-D501 combines perception interfaces and mission computing on one board. It does not replace the real-time flight controller. The intended split keeps stabilization on the flight controller while the companion computer handles AI, mapping, and mission tasks.

This separation is similar to other physical AI edge architectures, where supervisory compute must not be confused with the safety or motion-control layer.
