5069-L330ERMS2 Startup Checks: RTBs, I/O, and Motion Limits

Engineering checks for the Allen-Bradley 5069-L330ERMS2: controller capacity, separate RTB kits, local I/O limits, network-node limits, and motion-axis count.

Allen-Bradley 5069-L330ERMS2 is a Compact GuardLogix 5380 safety controller rated SIL 2/PLd. Rockwell Automation lists 3.0 MB standard memory and 1.5 MB safety memory.

The catalog number also sets three practical limits: 60 EtherNet/IP nodes, 31 local I/O modules, and 16 motion axes. These numbers should be checked before the hardware list is released.

Order the RTB Kit Separately

Rockwell Automation states that CompactLogix 5380 controllers do not include removable terminal blocks. The approved kit choices are:

  • 5069-RTB64-SCREW: screw-clamp terminal kit
  • 5069-RTB64-SPRING: spring-clamp terminal kit

An incomplete order can stop panel wiring even when the controller arrives on time. Add the selected RTB kit to the bill of materials.

Capacity Check

Item 5069-L330ERMS2 limit
Standard memory 3.0 MB
Safety memory 1.5 MB
EtherNet/IP nodes 60
Local Compact 5000 I/O modules 31
Integrated motion axes 16

Count configured devices, not spare addresses. Drives, remote I/O adapters, HMIs, and other EtherNet/IP devices can consume node capacity.

Firmware and Project Checks

  • Record the controller catalog number and installed firmware revision.
  • Confirm the Logix Designer release supports that firmware.
  • Check the safety project, safety signature, and Safety Network Numbers before migration.
  • Confirm the final I/O count against the 31-module local limit.
  • Confirm planned coordinated axes against the 16-axis limit.

Rockwell Automation lists current firmware downloads through its Product Compatibility and Download Center. Use that record instead of assuming a project opens on any revision.

Procurement Record

The PLC ProTech 5069-L330ERMS2 product page lists the stocked catalog number and retained specifications. Record the RTB choice, firmware, safety project version, and network count with the purchase order.
