ABB TP853 Replacement Checks for CI853/CI855/CI857/CI861
Replacement checks for ABB TP853 3BSE018126R1: identify the installed CI853, CI855, CI857, or CI861 interface, record wiring, and verify communication after installation.
ABB TP853, product ID 3BSE018126R1, is the module termination baseplate ABB lists for CI853, CI855, CI857, and CI861 communication interfaces. A replacement check must therefore identify both the baseplate and the installed interface.
The baseplate number alone does not identify the network protocol. CI853, CI855, CI857, and CI861 perform different communication functions.
Record the Installed Interface
- Read the full order code from the communication module.
- Record the controller type and project revision.
- Photograph the baseplate, module, cables, and shield connections.
- Label each cable before removal.
- Check the product record for the matching interface kit.
The PLC ProTech TP853 product page retains the currently recorded interface and kit order codes.
Do Not Treat the Four Interfaces as Equivalent
| Interface | Replacement record |
|---|---|
| CI853 | Confirm CI853 module and kit code. |
| CI855 | Confirm CI855 module and kit code. |
| CI857 | Confirm CI857 module and INSUM configuration. |
| CI861 | Confirm CI861 module and project configuration. |
ABB’s hardware selector states that CI857 is powered from the processor unit through the CEX-Bus. It does not require a separate external supply. That statement applies to CI857, not automatically to the other interfaces.
Pre-Removal Checks
- Export or back up the controller project.
- Record communication parameters and diagnostics.
- Check connector locking, bent pins, contamination, and visible heat damage.
- Verify the approved shutdown and ESD procedure for the installed controller.
- Confirm that the replacement is TP853, not a visually similar termination base.
If the fault is intermittent, record error logs before power is removed. A baseplate change can erase the physical evidence without correcting a configuration fault.
Commissioning Checks
- Confirm the module is fully seated before applying power.
- Restore the recorded project and communication settings.
- Check interface status and controller diagnostics.
- Verify communication with the connected device or network.
- Record the replacement order code and commissioning result.
Do not use the CI857 power arrangement as a general wiring instruction. The installed interface manual remains the controlling document.
Related Replacement Practice
The same identification rule applies to robot and fieldbus hardware. The ABB DSQC 351 replacement checklist shows why controller generation and connector direction must be recorded before a board is removed.
