A PowerFlex 753 may show healthy EtherNet/IP communication and still refuse a low speed command. That behavior is not automatically a network failure. The drive can accept the requested reference, pass it through its internal selection path and then raise it to a configured minimum before the motor command reaches the ramp.

First prove who owns the reference

Confirm that the controller has command authority and that the active selector points to the intended network path. A working I/O connection does not prove Ethernet owns the speed reference; a HIM, preset, digital input or process-control function can be active instead.

Compare the controller command with the drive’s active and final reference values. Verify Parameter 300, Speed Units. Rockwell documentation explains that the network REAL value represents hertz or RPM according to this setting, so an apparent command error can be a units mismatch.

The minimum-speed floor changes a valid command

Parameters 522 and 523 are Min Fwd Speed and Min Rev Speed. The PowerFlex 750-Series reference manual states that a positive reference below the forward minimum is raised to Parameter 522; the reverse path is governed by Parameter 523. A nonzero minimum creates a band the drive ramps through rather than continuously operates within.

A 5 Hz Ethernet request can therefore produce 20 Hz at the final reference when Min Fwd Speed is 20 Hz. The command arrived, but the limit block changed it by design.

Diagnose without creating another fault

Trend the complete path

Trend controller reference, active reference, final reference, output frequency and source status together. If active reference follows the PLC but final reference jumps to the floor, investigate minimum limits.

Find the mechanical reason

Do not automatically set the minimum to zero. It may protect motor cooling, lubrication, conveyor loading or process stability. Obtain process and mechanical approval before lowering it.

Test maximum and direction behavior
