The Woodward 9905-867 is a steam turbine digital control designed for single-valve or single-valve rack steam turbines. Equipped with a 16-bit, 12MHz microprocessor, this microprocessor-based system provides speed control, dual dynamics, and integrated monitoring functions. The unit accepts redundant magnetic pickup speed inputs and features an analog input dedicated to remote speed setting or process control integration. Enclosed in a NEMA 4X rated housing, the 9905-867 provides field configuration capability for mechanical drive applications including pumps, fans, blowers, and compressors.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mounting: Vertically mount the enclosure on a wall or 19-inch (483 mm) rack using the two side flanges. Leave adequate clearance for opening the front hinged door and accessing wiring entries.
  • Cable Routing: Route low-current signal wiring through the large bottom wiring port and high-current lines through the small bottom wiring port.
  • Shielding: Use twisted-pair shielded cable for MPU, actuator, and analog input connections. Terminate cable shields only at the control terminal block. Do not ground signal shields at the external field device or outside the control enclosure.
  • Grounding: Wire external system ground directly to Terminal 1 (Chassis Ground).
  • Power Supply Wiring: Run power leads directly from the power source using 3 mm² (12 AWG) or larger wire fully enclosed in conduit. Do not power external field devices using common leads shared with the control.
  • Discrete Inputs: Install a jumper or external shutdown switch across Discrete Input #3 (Terminals 12 & 15) to maintain the external trip circuit. Configure Jumper 15 for internal 24Vdc supply or Jumper 16 for external 5-28Vdc supply.
