Description

Designed for high-precision temperature acquisition within EtherCAT networks, the Beckhoff EL3214 analog input terminal provides direct connection for up to four resistance sensors. This 16-bit resolution module features a highly compact, 12 mm High Density (HD) housing with integrated signal LEDs, saving critical space inside the control cabinet. Can the EL3214 measure standard resistance instead of temperature?

Yes. In addition to standard RTDs, the EL3214 supports raw resistance measurement up to 4 kOhm (e.g., potentiometers) which can be configured within the CANopen over EtherCAT (CoE) register settings.

Does the EL3214 support 4-wire RTD sensor configurations?

No. The EL3214 natively supports 2-wire and 3-wire sensor topologies. If you are using 4-wire RTD sensors, connect them in a 3-wire configuration by leaving one of the return compensation leads disconnected, or upgrade to a dedicated 4-wire module.

How are different sensor types configured on the EL3214?
