Relay modules provide "dry contacts," meaning they can switch both AC and DC voltages and are not polarity-sensitive. They also offer much higher current-carrying capacity (2 Amps) and complete galvanic isolation between the PLC logic and the high-voltage field power.

Can I mix AC and DC loads on this module?

Yes, but with a restriction: you can mix them as long as they are in different groups. Since there are two isolated groups of eight, you could run 120 VAC on the first group and 24 VDC on the second group. However, all eight points within a single group must share the same common voltage source.

What should I do if my load is very small (less than 10 mA)?

Relay contacts require a "wetting current" to keep the contacts clean of oxidation. If your load is under 10 mA, the contact may become unreliable over time. In such cases, adding a "bleeder resistor" in parallel with the load can help maintain the minimum required current.

  • Thermal Management: When switching 2 Amps across all 16 points simultaneously, the module will generate internal heat. Ensure the Field Control rack has adequate airflow, and avoid mounting the module directly above heat-producing components like power supplies or VFDs.
