Product Description

Product Overview

The 1756-IT6I2 is a heavy-duty ControlLogix 6 Pt Enhanced Thermocouple Analog Input Module engineered for high-accuracy temperature processing in volatile industrial sectors such as petrochemical refining, power generation, and chemical processing 。As an engineered enhanced thermocouple module, it features six individually isolated channels that provide excellent signal reliability by eliminating ground loops and common-mode electrical hazards 。This design mitigates unpredicted channel fluctuations, directly maximizing plant uptime and protecting high-value processing loops。The module integrates seamlessly into any standard ControlLogix chassis, serving as a localized or high-performance distributed I/O station over EtherNet/IP or ControlNet infrastructures

Technical Configuration

This enhanced module incorporates a high-resolution 16-bit Sigma-Delta analog-to-digital converter to achieve precise microvolt-level quantization over extensive thermal spectrums 。Its high-performance hardware architecture achieves a common-mode noise rejection of 160 dB minimum when tested under 600V AC at 60 Hz, ensuring signal integrity in environments with extreme electromagnetic interference 。A matched pair of ultra-precision Cold Junction Compensation (CJC) thermistors accompanies the module to achieve a localized stability of $\pm$0.3 deg C across the terminal block interface 。Linearization is handled onboard via factory-calibrated ITS-90 algorithms 。When integrated using floating-point data formatting, plant engineers can activate an adjustable digital filter in tandem with the 60 Hz normal-mode notch filter to suppress high-frequency process noise

FAQs

What is the critical hardware difference between the legacy 1756-IT6I and the enhanced 1756-IT6I2?

The 1756-IT6I2 provides significantly upgraded common-mode noise rejection (160 dB minimum at 600V AC compared to 120 dB at 60 VAC on the legacy module) and delivers uniform, high-precision local CJC accuracy of $\pm$0.3 deg C across all internal channels

Cn I use a 1756-TBSH spring-clamp terminal block with the 1756-IT6I2?

No. According to the official Allen-Bradley I/O specifications manual, the 1756-IT6I2 module is strictly compatible with the 1756-TBNH only (cage-clamp terminal block housing) 。The spring-clamp variant (1756-TBSH) is not supported for this specific enhanced module

How does the module signal a field thermocouple sensor failure to the PLC?

The 1756-IT6I2 features active open-circuit diagnostic logic。If a sensor wire is severed or burnt out, the module detects the open loop and forces a positive full-scale maximum reading within 2 seconds into the controller data table to initiate an immediate emergency process shutoff or alert

Field Engineering and Commissioning Guidelines

  • Mandatory CJC Installation: The 1756-IT6I2 requires the installation of two matched CJC sensors directly onto the 1756-TBNH terminal block assembly 。Omitting these sensors disables the localized ambient reference tracking, leading to catastrophic temperature calculation drift and inaccurate process values。
  • Shielding Ground Protocols: Implement high-grade, twisted-pair shielded extension cables designated precisely for your specific thermocouple calibration type。Ground the shield drain wire at a single point only—preferably at the heavy copper enclosure ground bus inside the marshalling cabinet。Never run sensitive thermocouple lines through wireways containing high-power AC lines or VFD outputs to prevent inductive cross-talk
  • Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP): This module is fully rated to support RIUP execution while the ControlLogix chassis backplane remains energized 。However, in hazardous operational classifications, do not attempt to disconnect the 1756-TBNH terminal block or unseat the module unless field power has been entirely isolated and verified as de-energized。
