The ABB IEPAF02 is an AC field power module designed to supply high-reliability +24 VDC power directly to field-powered devices and field termination hardware. Operating within the INFI 90 process control cabinet architecture, the IEPAF02 converts standard 120/240 VAC line input into fully regulated +24 VDC output, segregating field power distribution from system logic supplies to enhance noise isolation and operational stability.

Featuring advanced parallel load sharing, the ABB IEPAF02 supports scalable system sizing and N+1 power redundancy configurations, ensuring uninterrupted process control during individual module maintenance or failure. Built with integrated diagnostic status circuitry, the module continuously monitors internal operation and bus output conditions, delivering real-time LED diagnostic feedback and automated fault detection to process control networks.

Features

  • Delivers dedicated, regulated +24 VDC output tailored for field termination devices and field I/O circuitry.
  • Configurable input power capabilities supporting both 120 VAC and 240 VAC line supplies.
  • Supports N+1 redundant power topologies with active load sharing across parallel module installations.
  • Hot-swappable modular architecture allowing insertion and removal under live system power.
  • Integrated LED status indicators for real-time visual feedback on module health, overtemperature, overcurrent, and undercurrent conditions.
  • Comprehensive circuit protection including overtemperature shutdown, overcurrent limiting, and undercurrent detection.
  • Direct compatibility with IEMMU01, IEMMU02 Module Mounting Units, and IEPMU01, IEPMU02 Power Mounting Units.

Applications

  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS) field device power supplies.
  • Process control cabinet field termination unit (TU) and termination module powering.
  • Redundant field I/O loop power distribution in petrochemical, power generation, and heavy manufacturing facilities.

Installation Guidelines

  • Grounding & Electrostatic Discharge: Always wear a grounded ESD wrist strap connected to the cabinet frame or power entry panel grounding point before handling modules.
  • Input Voltage Jumpering: Verify jumper J1 is correctly positioned for either 120 VAC (pins 1-2) or 240 VAC (pins 2-3) operation prior to seating the module into the backplane.
  • Undercurrent Configuration: Set jumper J2 to enable (pins 1-2) or disable (pins 2-3) 24 VDC undercurrent monitoring based on minimum connected field load requirements.
  • Module Insertion: Align module edges with card cage guide rails in the IEMMU or IEPMU housing. Slide firmly into position until edge connectors engage the backplane, then lock with the two concentric faceplate retaining screws.
  • Capacitor Discharge Warning: Allow at least 5 seconds for internal line filter capacitors to discharge after removing the module from live power before handling.
  • Thermal Management: Handle removed modules by the front panel edges or handles; avoid contact with the internal heat sinks, which can reach high temperatures during operation.

Compliance and Certifications

  • Safety Certification: CSA certified as process control equipment in an ordinary (nonhazardous) environment.
  • Surge Protection: Meets IEEE-472-1974 surge test requirements.

FAQ

What is the primary output function of the power module?

The module converts 120/240 VAC input power into a regulated +24 VDC output dedicated to powering field termination devices and field-powered circuitry.

Does the power supply support hot-swapping during live system operation?

Yes, the module is designed for hot insertion and removal within compatible mounting units without requiring cabinet power shutdown.

How do you configure the device for 120 VAC or 240 VAC operation?

Input voltage selection is configured via onboard jumper J1: position pins 1-2 for 120 VAC input, or position pins 2-3 for 240 VAC input.

What indicates an overtemperature condition on the device front panel?

An overtemperature condition on internal converters is indicated by an alternating red and green status LED.
