The ABB Bailey IMCIS02 is a Control I/O Slave (CIS) module designed to interface process field signals with the Infi 90 Process Management System. Occupying a single slot in a Module Mounting Unit (MMU), the IMCIS02 acts as an input/output bridge, processing field signals to be monitored and executed by master modules like the Multi-Function Processor (MFP).

The module conditions four analog inputs and three digital inputs from field equipment, while driving two analog outputs and four digital outputs to control industrial processes. Front-panel switch configurations allow customization of analog output behavior and digital input response times to handle process contact debouncing.

Features

  • Accepts up to 4 analog inputs and 3 digital inputs.
  • Provides 2 analog outputs and 4 digital outputs.
  • Supports selectable analog output modes (1 to 5 VDC or 4 to 20 mA).
  • Optically isolated digital I/O for enhanced field circuit noise isolation.
  • Configurable digital input response times (1.5 ms Fast / 17 ms Slow) for contact debounce filtering.
  • Automatic online analog input calibration utilizing integrated reference voltages.
  • Onboard bus fault timer for process safety and default output state enforcement upon communication loss.
  • Front-panel status LED indicator for operational diagnostics and bus fault tracking.

Applications

  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS) process monitoring and control
  • Analog loop field signal interface and conditioning
  • Discrete device field status monitoring and control
  • System expansion and signal integration within Infi 90 systems

Installation Guidelines

  • ESD Handling: Use a static dissipative grounding wrist strap and anti-static field kit when handling or installing the module to prevent electrostatic damage to sensitive components.
  • MMU Mounting: Align the circuit board with the top and bottom plastic guide rails of the designated MMU slot and slide in until flush with the rack frame. Lock the captive retaining screws by turning them half a turn into the vertical latched position.
  • Expander Bus Setup: Ensure a dipshunt is correctly installed in the backplane socket between the master controller and the slave module to establish communication on the slave expander bus.
  • Configuration Verification: Set DIP switches S1 (Slave Address), S2 (Analog Output Default), S3 (Analog Output Mode), and jumpers J1 through J6 (Digital Input Voltages/Speed) prior to sliding the board into the MMU.
  • Wiring & Cabling: Route field signals using compatible termination devices (NTCS02 Termination Unit or NICS01 Termination Module) connected via standard NKTU or NKTM cables to connector P3.

Compliance and Certifications

  • CSA: Certified for use as process control equipment in ordinary (non-hazardous) locations.

Technical Datasheet

ABB Bailey IMCIS02 Control I/O Slave Module

What is the primary function of the module?

The device acts as an interface between process field signals and the Infi 90 Process Management System, transferring analog and digital field values to and from a master controller.

How are the analog outputs configured for voltage or current mode?

The analog output operating mode is set using on-board switch S3, which allows each output to be independently configured for 1 to 5 VDC or 4 to 20 mA operation.

What happens to the outputs if communication with the master module is lost?

An onboard bus fault timer monitors communication. If a timeout occurs, digital outputs de-energize and analog outputs transition to pre-configured default values (0%, 100%, or hold last value) based on switch S2 settings.

Can the module be inserted or removed while system power is applied?

Yes, the module can be removed or installed without shutting down system power, provided proper ESD protocols and process safety precautions are followed.
