Description

The ABB IMDSM05 Digital I/O Slave Module is a digital input/output interface for process field signals within the INFI 90 Process Management System. It brings up to 16 digital signals into master modules—such as the Multi-Function Processor (MFP), Multi-Function Controller (MFC), or Logic Master Module (LMM)—for monitoring, and transmits digital control signals to process field control devices like relays, lamps, contacts, switches, or solenoids. The module also handles signal transfers between master modules and Digital Logic Stations (NDLS02).

The module consists of a single printed circuit board occupying one slot in a Module Mounting Unit (MMU). It contains 16 I/O circuits divided into two independent groups of eight (Group A and Group B). Twelve I/O circuits are individually isolated from each other, while the remaining two pairs share positive common input lines.

Installation Guidelines

  • Use grounded static dissipative wrist straps and anti-static procedures when handling the module to protect electrostatic sensitive devices.
  • Configure the 8-position slave address dipswitch (S1) to match the address defined in Function Code 84 Specification 1 before inserting the module.
  • Set master selection jumpers J17 and J18 to positions 1-2 for LMM01 operation, or positions 2-3 for MFP, MFC, or LMM02 operation.
  • Set digital I/O jumpers J1 to J16 to positions 1-2 for inputs or normal outputs, or positions 2-3 for two-wire isolated output operation.
  • Verify that a dipshunt is installed in the slave expander bus socket on the MMU backplane between the slave and master modules.
  • Disconnect power before installing dipshunts for slave modules on the MMU backplane.
  • Slide the module along the plastic guide rails of the MMU until the front panel is flush with the frame, then tighten the two captive retaining screws.

How does the module respond if communication with the master module is lost?

If communication with the master is lost, contact 4 on the configuration switch determines whether the outputs freeze at their current state or default to preset values defined by default switches A and B.

What happens when an output channel is configured for two-wire isolated operation?

When an I/O point jumper is placed across posts 2 and 3 for two-wire isolated output mode, the output is isolated from other circuits, the corresponding front panel LED will not light, and read-back status sensing is disabled.

Can the module be replaced without turning off system power?

Yes, the device can be removed or installed while system power is supplied to the rack.
