The CX5130 occupies a mid-tier position in Beckhoff's fanless embedded PC family, sitting directly above the single-core CX5120 and below the quad-core CX5140. When replacing an older generation CX5020 or CX1020, verify that your TwinCAT 3 license mapping covers Platform Level 40 (Performance). Older licenses designed for Platform Level 30 (Economy) or below cannot run on the CX5130 hardware without a license migration or upgrade.
Because this CPU module is strictly fanless and relies heavily on convective heat dissipation, it must be installed in a vertical orientation. Maintaining a clearance of at least 30 mm above and below the module is critical. Ambient temperature monitoring is essential; if the enclosure temperature continuously approaches the limit of +60 degC, structural cooling or active ventilation of the control panel is highly recommended to prevent automated thermal throttling of the dual-core processor.
The integrated 1-second UPS does not require maintenance but requires a quality, high-write-endurance industrial CFast card to function correctly. The capacitor charge powers the unit just long enough to copy the 1 MB persistent database block from the system memory to the CFast card. Ensure that the storage card has sufficient allocated memory partition space and is not set to read-only mode, or persistent variables will fail to load on successive boots.
CRITICAL WARNING: ELECTRICAL RISK
Always isolate all 24 V DC power feeds to the system before starting mounting, removal, or wiring changes. Never apply power when adding or removing adjacent I/O expansion terminals. Electrostatic discharges or loose wire strands can bridge high-speed backplane contacts, causing irreversible damage to the CPU bus logic controller.
