Product Description

Description

The BECKHOFF EL3174 is a four-channel analog input terminal designed for the EtherCAT I/O system. This multi-function terminal processes signals spanning voltage and current ranges, accommodating inputs such as plus/minus 10 V and plus/minus 20 mA with a 16-bit resolution. As part of the High-Density housing series, the device integrates four independent channels into a narrow 12 mm module width, making it well-suited for space-constrained control cabinets requiring multi-channel analog data acquisition.

The terminal features parameterizable input types, supporting both differential voltage measurements and single-ended current measurements. Equipped with distributed clock support capable of sub-microsecond precision, the EL3174 allows synchronized sampling across distributed automation nodes. It communicates process data via the EtherCAT E-bus, requiring no manual addressing or physical configuration switches during setup.

Features

  • Four independent analog input channels in a compact 12 mm High-Density housing
  • Parameterizable measuring ranges for voltage (-10/0 to +10 V) and current (-20/0/+4 to +20 mA)
  • 16-bit resolution including sign for high-precision measurement acquisition
  • Distributed clock support with precision under 1 microsecond for synchronized data acquisition
  • Selectable FIR and IIR input filters alongside ExtendedRange support
  • Standard and compact process image configurations for optimized data transfer
  • Signal status LEDs for visual channel and diagnostic monitoring

Applications

  • Precision analog sensor monitoring in industrial automation and machine control
  • Multi-channel voltage and current signal acquisition in test benches and laboratory setups
  • Synchronized data logging across distributed EtherCAT network topologies
  • Process monitoring applications requiring configurable filter characteristics and high resolution

Installation Guidelines

  1. Ensure the entire control system and associated power supplies are fully de-energized before beginning installation or wiring work.
  2. Inspect the BECKHOFF EL3174 terminal housing and connection points for any signs of transit damage.
  3. Mount the terminal onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail (conforming to EN 60715) by snapping it securely into place using the integrated locking mechanism. Ensure proper side-by-side engagement via the double slot and key connection.
  4. Strip field conductors to the recommended length of 8 to 9 mm. Insert solid, stranded, or ferrule-equipped wires into the spring-loaded connection points using a suitable screwdriver.
  5. Verify terminal assignment and signal wiring against system schematics, ensuring proper separation between differential voltage and single-ended current loops.
  6. Confirm that E-bus connections and power contact bridges are correctly seated between adjacent terminals.
  7. Restore system power and verify operational status using the integrated channel signal LEDs and the TwinCAT engineering environment.
