Integrating PROFIBUS fieldbus networks into high-performance EtherCAT networks is simplified using the Beckhoff EL6731 communication interface. This 1-channel PROFIBUS master/slave terminal enables bidirectional data transfer between EtherCAT Terminals and legacy PROFIBUS DP, DP-V1, DP-V2, and MC installations. It operates seamlessly within the TwinCAT system, allowing differing DP cycle times per slave through the implementation of the CDL (Co-processor Dependency Link) concept.
The module functions as a highly integrated gateway, supporting up to 125 slaves and transfer rates from 9.6 kbaud up to 12 Mbaud. Its design features galvanic decoupling of the communication interface, status LEDs for rapid diagnostics, and distributed clocks for precise synchronization, making it a reliable choice for complex distributed industrial control architectures.
