BECKHOFF ELX3312-0090 EtherCAT Terminal

Description

The BECKHOFF ELX3312-0090 is a high-precision, 2-channel analog input EtherCAT Terminal designed for direct temperature measurement using thermocouples located in explosion-hazardous areas. Featuring intrinsic safety (Ex i) interfaces, this terminal permits the direct connection of sensors installed in Zone 0/20 and Zone 1/21 hazardous environments, providing a highly integrated solution for process technology applications.

In addition to its intrinsically safe capabilities, the BECKHOFF ELX3312-0090 incorporates TwinSAFE SC (Single Channel) technology. This enables the use of standard analog signals for safety-directed tasks within a TwinSAFE system, allowing the transmission of process data to a TwinSAFE Logic terminal for safety-related evaluation and processing.

This compact 12 mm terminal supports a wide array of thermocouple types, performing high-resolution, low-noise analog-to-digital conversion. To maintain isolation and safety parameters, the terminal must be integrated into an EtherCAT segment powered by an ELX9560 power supply terminal.

Installation Guidelines

1. Ensure all power supplies are fully de-energized before mounting, wiring, or configuring the terminal.
2. Mount the terminal on a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) with secure locking.
3. Verify that the terminal is positioned within an EtherCAT Terminal segment that is powered downstream of an approved ELX9560 power supply terminal to ensure intrinsically safe power distribution.
4. Observe all mandatory Ex i isolation distances, separation guidelines, and wiring classifications for hazardous-area installations.
5. Ensure correct thermocouple polarity during wiring to avoid measurement offset and errors. Ensure shield grounding is executed in accordance with local hazardous area regulations.
