Description

The BECKHOFF ER2318-0002 is a field-mountable EtherCAT Box module designed for high-performance decentralized industrial automation. Combining four digital inputs and four digital outputs in a single compact enclosure, this module enables direct connection of standard sensors and actuators at the machine level. By eliminating the necessity for protective control cabinets, it streamlines machine wiring and reduces installation footprints in demanding production environments.

This module processes digital signals with high speed and precision. The inputs feature a rapid 10-microsecond filter and conform to EN 61131-2 type 1/3 specifications, ensuring clean signal acquisition from electronic sensors. The four digital outputs handle up to 0.5 A each, safely switching ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads. Signal and power transmission are managed through industry-standard screw-type connector interfaces that maintain seal integrity under harsh operating conditions.

Constructed in a zinc die-cast housing, the BECKHOFF ER2318-0002 is optimized for extreme conditions, offering IP65, IP66, and IP67 protection ratings. Installation Guidelines

1. Verify that the module model matches your system layout documentation before beginning installation.
2. Ensure all power sources feeding the system are completely de-energized to prevent electrical shocks or component damage.
3. Mount the module securely to a clean, flat mounting surface using appropriate mounting fasteners. Ensure the installation position allows for clean cable runs.
4. Connect the M12 signal cables to the sensor and actuator ports, taking care not to over-torque the connectors.
5. Connect the incoming and downstream M8 fieldbus cables. Ensure the connectors are fully tightened to maintain the IP67 sealing rating.
6. Establish the auxiliary power supply connections using the designated M8 power connectors.
7. Verify that cable shields are properly terminated and grounded in accordance with standard EM practices.
8. Apply control voltage, configure the module in your TwinCAT system, and verify communication and signal transmission via the status LEDs.
