Product Overview

The 084G2109 (084G2109) is a heavy-duty, box-type pressure transmitter from the specialized Danfoss EMP 2 series. Engineered for critical control functions within marine propulsion networks, hydraulic power plants, industrial boiler rooms, and compressed air systems, this instrument provides high-reliability performance in high-vibration and fluid-pulsing environments. By transmitting continuous 4-20 mA loop feedback to PLC, DCS, or safety supervisory units, the sensor monitors fluid lines to identify pressure spikes or line drops, protecting mechanical pumps and valves while reducing unpredicted system downtime and maintenance costs.

Technical Configuration

The EMP 2 chassis is housed within a marine-approved, cast enclosure rated IP65, offering superior resistance to structural resonance and physical impact. The internal architecture features a dedicated terminal block compartment that simplifies field wiring while isolating sensitive electronics from dust, moisture, and vibration. The unit includes automated signal-limiting thresholds (3.6 mA to 22.4 mA), allowing automated safety systems to easily isolate legitimate process excursions from wiring faults. The process interface is highly versatile, featuring a combined G 1/2 male and G 1/4 female fitting conforming to EN 228-1 standards for easy integration into diverse piping configurations.

FAQs

What are the benefits of the box-style enclosure?

The box-type chassis provides excellent resistance to the mechanical vibration and physical impacts common in engine rooms or pump bays. It features an isolated terminal block accessible through a Pg 13.5 gland, preventing cable strain from affecting the sensing element.

How does the integrated signal clipping improve safety?

The transmitter restricts its normal operational span to 4-20 mA. If an internal failure or loop issue occurs, the signal moves to 3.6 mA or 22.4 mA. This allows the supervising controller to immediately trigger a sensor fault alarm rather than processing an erroneous pressure value.

Does this transmitter compensate for barometric shifts?

Yes. To track relative pressure accurately, the transmitter equalizes internal air reference metrics against local barometric pressure. The vent path is built into the housing and uses a protective barrier to allow pressure adjustments while blocking moisture and dust.

Mechanical Installation & Commissioning Guide

  • Process Port Mounting: Thread the G 1/2 male or G 1/4 female fitting directly into piping that complies with EN 228-1. Secure the unit using the integrated wrench flats on the port. Do not apply rotational force to the outer cast housing, as this can misalign internal sensing components.

  • Wiring Terminations: Access the internal terminal block by loosening the housing cover. Route wiring through the Pg 13.5 cable gland. Terminate the positive supply conductor to terminal P and the shared return to terminal N. Tighten the gland dome nut to secure the cable jacket and maintain the IP65 seal.

  • Thermal and Vibration Isolation: Ensure process fluid temperatures remain within the -10 deg C to 70 deg C range. For installations near high-temperature steam lines or severe vibration sources, utilize a capillary tube assembly or remote mounting kit to isolate the transmitter body from conditions exceeding its thermal or mechanical ratings.
