Product Overview

The Omron CJ1W-IA201 (CJ1WIA201) is a specialized 8-point AC input module designed for the SYSMAC CJ1 and CJ2 series PLC platforms. This unit is specifically engineered to interface directly with high-voltage AC field devices, such as limit switches, push-buttons, and auxiliary contacts operating on 200 V to 240 V AC networks. By eliminating the need for interposing relays to step down voltages to 24 VDC, the CJ1W-IA201 significantly reduces cabinet space and wiring complexity. The module features an integrated terminal block and high-quality internal optocouplers that provide up to 2,000 VAC dielectric strength, ensuring that sensitive PLC backplane electronics are fully isolated from high-voltage field-side surges.

Technical Configuration

The CJ1W-IA201 is optimized for stability in high-voltage industrial power environments.

  • AC Input Filtering: Features a robust hardware-based filter to prevent "false triggers" caused by induction or noise on long field cable runs.

  • Deterministic Response: Provides a reliable ON response time of 18 ms and an OFF response time of 48 ms, making it suitable for standard interlocking and monitoring applications.

  • Thermal Efficiency: Designed with an internal current consumption of only 80 mA, allowing for multiple units to be installed on a single rack without exceeding the power supply's capacity.

  • Simplified Commonality: All 8 points share a single common circuit (8 points/common), simplifying the neutral or line-return wiring for the field devices.

  • Removable Terminal Block: Facilitates rapid maintenance; the terminal block can be removed without disconnecting the field wiring, minimizing downtime during module replacement.

Technical FAQs

Can I use this unit with 110 VAC signals?

No. The CJ1W-IA201 has a minimum ON voltage threshold of 120 VAC. For 100-120 VAC signals, you should use the CJ1W-IA111 module.

Does this module require an external power supply for the inputs?

The inputs are "sink" type AC inputs. They do not require power from the PLC to sense the signal, but the field circuit itself must be powered by the 200-240 VAC source you are monitoring.

What is the benefit of the default 8 ms filter setting?

The default software filter helps debounce mechanical contacts. While the hardware response is fixed, the PLC allows you to adjust the software filter in the "PLC Setup" to prioritize either speed or noise immunity.

Engineering & Installation Guide

  • Wiring Safety: High voltage (200-240 VAC) is present at the terminal block. Ensure that the PLC power is OFF and the field power is locked out before removing the terminal block or performing maintenance. Use crimp-style spade or ring terminals to ensure a secure, vibration-resistant connection.

  • Separation of Cables: To prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI), route the 200 VAC input cables in separate trunking or ducts away from low-voltage DC signals and communication cables (Ethernet/IP, RS-485).

  • Leakage Current Awareness: If you are using sensors with leakage current (such as some proximity switches) to drive these inputs, ensure the leakage current is below 2 mA. If it exceeds this value, the input may stay "ON" even when the sensor is inactive. In such cases, an external bleeder resistor may be required.
