ProSoft MVI56E-MNETCR Modbus TCP/IP Multi-Client Enhanced Communication Module for Remote Chassis

Quantity

Product Description

The MVI56E-MNETCR is a Modbus TCP/IP Multi-Client Enhanced Communication Module for Remote Chassis that allows Rockwell Automation ControlLogix Programmable Automation Controllers (PACs) to interface with multiple Modbus TCP/IP server-compatible instruments and devices. This communication module improves network data transfer performance when controlling multiple servers on a Modbus TCP/IP network by supporting up to 30 clients. Operating as a single-slot module on the 1756 ControlLogix backplane, the MVI56E-MNETCR uses a small I/O data image for data transfer between the module and the ControlLogix processor, making it suitable for ControlNet or Ethernet remote rack installations.

Features

  • Supports up to 30 Clients with up to 16 commands for each client to enable multi-server connectivity
  • Integrated with RSLogix 5000 version 16 or higher using a supplied Add-On Instruction (AOI) or ladder file
  • Programmatically enables and disables commands easily from ladder logic to support multiple applications or recipes without reconfiguring the module
  • Remotely configures and diagnoses problems through remote racks using EtherNet/IP or ControlNet via interface modules without requiring RSLinx OEM software
  • Built-in web server provides web-enabled Ethernet port access to on-board documentation, module status, and firmware updates
  • Backward compatible with previous MVI56-MNETC applications by supporting existing ladder logic and configurations

Applications

  • Distributed ControlLogix remote chassis architectures
  • ControlNet or Ethernet remote rack communication networks
  • Industrial multi-server server-client bridging applications
  • SCADA and infrastructure remote monitoring networks

Installation Guidelines

  • Module Placement: After checking the placement of the jumpers, insert the module into the single-slot 1756 ControlLogix chassis. Use the standard technique recommended by Rockwell Automation to remove and install modules.
  • Backplane Power Precaution: When inserting or removing the module while backplane power is on, an electrical arc can occur. Ensure power is removed or the area is known to be non-hazardous before proceeding to avoid contact wear or unintended motion.
  • Jumper Configuration: The Setup Jumper acts as write protection for the module flash memory. In write-protected mode, the Setup pins are not connected. If installing in a remote rack, leaving the Setup pins jumpered allows firmware updates without physical access but leaves the module open to unexpected updates.
  • Security Segmentation: Align with IEC 62443-1-1 and implement system segmentation (firewalls, DMZ, or unidirectional communication) to control data flow for security reasons.
  • Firmware and Logic: Before operation, import the required MVI56EMNETCR_AddOn_Rung_vXXX.L5X file containing the Add-On Instruction, user-defined data types, controller tags, and ladder logic into RSLogix 5000.
