Description

The Woodward 8237-1247 is a triple modular over-speed detection system designed to monitor turbine rotor speed and acceleration for industrial turbines. Operating via active or passive magnetic pickups (MPUs), the unit issues a precise shutdown command to the turbine trip valve or corresponding trip system. The 8237-1247 features a bulkhead mount enclosure with IP56 dust and water resistance, integrating 4 to 20 mA speed readouts and Modbus communications. It utilizes two redundant trip relays and supports high-voltage power inputs to ensure reliable safety instrumented protection across hydro, steam, and gas turbine applications.

Features

  • Triple modular design enabling online replacement of individual modules during operation
  • Active or passive MPU detection for rotor speed and acceleration monitoring
  • Two redundant trip relays for reliable emergency shutdown execution
  • 4 to 20 mA speed readouts and Modbus communication support
  • Resistance to sulfur contamination, H2S, and CO2 gases
  • Built-in routine testing functionality using an internal frequency generator

Applications

  • Hydro turbines
  • Steam turbines
  • Gas turbines
  • Turbine over-speed and over-acceleration protection systems
