Siemens to Digitalize Galp’s 100 MW Hydrogen Plant

Siemens will deploy its Hydrogen Performance Suite and a physics-based Digital Process Twin at GalpH2Park’s 100 MW first phase in Sines.

Siemens announced on October 8, 2026 that it will deploy digital-twin and optimization software at GalpH2Park in Sines, Portugal.

The first project phase is a 100 MW renewable-hydrogen facility. Galp expects annual production of up to 15,000 tons of hydrogen and an approximate reduction of 110,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent per year.

What Siemens is supplying

The core software is Siemens’ Hydrogen Performance Suite. Its Digital Process Twin uses physics-based models and real-time optimization.

The announced software stack combines process modelling, data analytics and real-time visualization. It also uses live plant data plus external information from grid operators and energy markets.

What the 15 percent figure means

Siemens estimates that the suite can reduce energy use by up to 15 percent. This is a supplier estimate, not a reported result from the Sines plant.

The target depends on model quality, measurement coverage and the operational constraints supplied to the optimizer.

Engineering impact

This project puts the digital twin above the measurement and control layers. It does not remove the need for validated instruments, control logic or safety systems.

Integration work should identify:

  • Which process values feed the model and at what update rate
  • How bad-quality or missing measurements are handled
  • Which recommendations remain advisory
  • Who approves production-schedule changes
  • How grid and market data are time-aligned with plant data
  • How model versions and operator actions are audited
