This managed switch serves as a direct upgrade to the unmanaged IE-SW-VL05-3TX-2SC series, offering advanced diagnostics and ring redundancy protocols (such as Turbo Ring or RSTP) to prevent network loops. When replacing older revisions, verify that the existing network management software or PLC configuration supports standard SNMP or the specific Weidmuller ring topology parameters.
When deploying the multimode SC-Duplex ports over long distances, ensure that the total optical power budget does not exceed the receiver's saturation limits. For short-run fiber connections (under 100 meters), optical attenuators are generally not required, but clean fiber end-faces are critical to prevent packet loss. Ensure the switch is mounted vertically on the DIN rail to facilitate natural convection cooling, especially when operating near the upper thermal limit of 75 degC.
To ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), connect the functional earth (FE) terminal on the DIN-rail ground block directly to a low-impedance earth ground. When wiring the redundant power inputs, use a wire gauge between 12 and 24 AWG. Tighten the terminal block screws to a torque of 0.5 Nm to prevent loose connections under high-vibration conditions.
CRITICAL WARNING
