Installation Guidelines

  • Plan for a minimum hardware clearance of 105 mm (4 in.) at the top and bottom, and 90 mm (3.54 in.) on the sides from enclosure walls, wireways, and adjacent machinery.
  • Ensure the system is grounded through the DIN rail to the chassis ground by utilizing zinc-plated yellow-chromate steel DIN rail; avoid aluminum or plastic rails which can oxidize and cause poor conductivity.
  • Secure the mounting DIN rail to the surface approximately every 200 mm (7.87 in.) and install appropriate end-anchors to hold modules firmly.
  • If choosing panel mounting instead of DIN rail installation, mark pilot holes using the hardware as a template, drill holes for M4 or #8 screws, and tighten to 1.16 N.m (10 lb.in) of torque. Do not use screws and DIN rail concurrently.
  • Connect the network interface cable to a 100 MB Ethernet switch rather than a shared hub to increase network bandwidth and reduce lost packets.
  • Never connect or disconnect network communication cables while power is actively applied, as an electrical arc can occur and present an explosion hazard in certified environments.
  • Always wait for all diagnostic status lights on the power supply and controller to turn completely off before disconnecting any system module to allow the processor sufficient time to finish writing project parameters to non-volatile memory.
  • Mitigate static risks by touching a grounded object, wearing an approved grounding wriststrap, and strictly avoiding contact with component board pins, connectors, or internal circuit elements.

A flashing red network (NET) indicator indicates that one or more of the established connections in which the communication module is acting as the target device have timed out.

Why must installers wait for all status lights to turn off before separating the hardware?

When system power is switched off, the main controller writes its active project data to non-volatile memory. Separating the modules before all status lights turn off interrupts this process, resulting in the unrecoverable loss of the control program.
