Description

The Allen-Bradley 1788-EN2DN is a high-performance Ethernet-to-DeviceNet Linking Device engineered by Rockwell Automation to provide a seamless bridge between information- or control-level networks and device-level architectures. This communications adapter features full DeviceNet master functionality, allowing users to connect up to 63 DeviceNet slave devices to an Ethernet TCP/IP interface supporting the EtherNet/IP network and an embedded HTTP web server. By utilizing centralized I/O tables for data mapping, cross-network transfers occur transparently to standard connected components. The 1788-EN2DN is designed as an open-type module with unified termination placement on one end, making it well-suited for industrial automation environments requiring high-speed data integration and bridging capabilities.

Features

  • Seamless network gateway linking EtherNet/IP control architectures with device-level loops.
  • Full DeviceNet master functionality accommodating up to 63 downstream slave nodes.
  • Centralized I/O storage tables facilitating real-time cross-network reading and writing protocols.
  • Embedded HTTP web server layout providing access to local system diagnostics.
  • Compact DIN rail mountable form factor matching standard plant enclosure footprints.

Applications

  • Real-time bridge or router between supervisory EtherNet/IP scanners and dedicated device arrays.
  • Transparent programming, data collection, and diagnostic tracking across separate fieldbus layers.
  • Control cabinet integration matching Logix5000 processing configurations.

Installation Guidelines

  • Enclosure Requirements: Mount this open-type module inside a protective industrial enclosure with a flame-retardant rating of 5VA, V2, V1, or V0 if non-metallic, accessible only with a tool.
  • ESD Prevention: Always handle the unit within an ESD-safe workspace, using an approved grounding wrist strap and avoiding physical contact with internal circuit tracks or exposed pin headers.
  • Secure Fastening: Tighten all power and network interface terminal screw connections to the recommended torque specification of 0.5...0.8 N-m to prevent loose-wire fault vectors.
