Processing critical machinery temperature data, the Bently Nevada 3500/61-05-CN provides continuous, independent recorder outputs from RTD and thermocouple transducers directly to external control systems. Operating as a specialized 6-channel monitor module within the 3500 machinery protection system rack, this unit integrates built-in internal barriers to support intrinsically safe field wiring configurations. The 3500/61-05-CN serves a dual purpose by comparing temperature inputs against user-programmable alarm setpoints to drive protection relays while simultaneously generating proportional analog signals for strip-chart recorders, plant DCS, or PLC systems.

The -05 option (RTD/TC with Internal Barriers) cannot be mixed with non-barrier standard I/O modules on the same 3500/61 main card slot. When upgrading an older system or converting a standard 3500/61 setup to a barrier setup, you must replace both the back-plane I/O connector block and reprogram the channel configuration inside the Bently Nevada 3500 Rack Configuration Software (Version 3.0 or higher is recommended for accurate temperature curve linearizations).
Because this module utilizes non-isolated RTD/TC inputs with internal barriers, care must be taken regarding the transducer grounding. Grounded thermocouples or RTDs that experience high ground-potential variations relative to the 3500 rack chassis ground can inject common-mode noise, leading to measurement drift or false alarms. Ensure that only ungrounded temperature sensors are deployed in installations subject to high electrical noise or ground loops.
To maintain the integrity of the intrinsically safe barrier circuits, keep the hazardous field wiring completely separate from non-intrinsically safe cabling within the cabinet. Shielded, twisted-pair cables must be utilized. Terminate the shields strictly at the designated shield terminal on the I/O module and keep the sensor end isolated from the machine housing to avoid ground loop current paths.
This module is equipped with internal barriers for hazardous area protection. Before performing any removal or insertion of the I/O card, ensure the rack is entirely de-energized. Failure to isolate the field wiring first can compromise the safety barrier protection, potentially igniting hazardous atmospheres or permanently damaging sensitive input circuits.
Verify that the 3500 rack power is switched off and all field instruments in the hazardous zone are de-energized before accessing the rear slot.
Align the I/O module with the card guides at the rear of the rack corresponding to the matching front 3500/61 monitor card slot.
Slide the module firmly into the rack backplane connectors until the module faceplate sits flush against the rack frame.
Secure the two panel screws at the top and bottom of the faceplate to a torque value of 1.2 Nm (10.6 in-lb) to guarantee continuous chassis grounding.
