ABB Q3 Orders Reached $12.1 Billion: What the Mix Shows
ABB reported record Q3 2026 orders and a 1.24 book-to-bill ratio; this article separates group-level data from practical supply-chain implications.
ABB published its third-quarter 2026 results on 20 October 2026. The release reported record orders of $12.055 billion, up 40% year on year, and revenues of $9.701 billion, up 14%. Orders exceeded revenue, producing a 1.24 book-to-bill ratio.
What ABB reported
| Q3 2026 measure | Reported result |
|---|---|
| Orders | $12.055 billion; +40% |
| Revenues | $9.701 billion; +14% |
| Book-to-bill | 1.24 |
| Operational EBITA | $2.026 billion; 20.8% margin |
| Cash flow from operating activities | $1.862 billion |
ABB said the data-center segment recorded triple-digit order growth. The company did not publish product-level order or lead-time data in the release.
Capacity is being added selectively
ABB said capital expenditure is running at about $1 billion and that capacity is being expanded incrementally. The stated approach combines added capacity, factory automation and selected third-party assembly. This is a group-level plan, not a delivery commitment for any control, drive, motor or electrification SKU.
The DC roadmap has a later milestone
The update also referenced ABB’s Infinitus direct-current portfolio. ABB describes five building blocks that can be combined for different data-center architectures. A solid-state transformer is planned for commercial availability in the second half of 2027. That date is a roadmap statement and should not be read as current availability.
What procurement teams should take from the release
- Strong orders can increase pressure on selected product families even when group revenue is growing.
- Confirm lead time against the exact order code; group results do not predict availability for an individual module.
- Separate confirmed products from roadmap items when planning DC upgrades.
- For maintenance stock, keep revision, certification and replacement constraints tied to the installed asset.
