Description

The General Electric IC609SJR110 is a Series One Junior programmable controller processor designed for standalone industrial machine control and compact process sequencing. Operating on a selectable 115/230 VAC power supply, the unit integrates a central processing unit, internal control logic, and 24 fixed discrete input/output points directly on its base chassis. The discrete I/O complement consists of 15 DC sink input circuits and 9 DC sink output circuits, providing an all-in-one automation solution for equipment requiring direct solid-state DC switching.

The controller's input circuits accept discrete ON/OFF signals from dry contacts, limit switches, pushbuttons, and solid-state sensors. Standard inputs span circuit references 0 through 14, while circuit references 15 and 16 can be configured as a high-speed counter input and reset or utilized as standard discrete DC sink inputs. Circuit 15 requires an open collector signal source when used in counting mode. The 9 DC sink output circuits (references 17 through 27) operate over a 5 to 24 VDC load range, accommodating solenoids, pilot lamps, indicator lights, and interposing relays. Individual front-panel LED indicators display the active ON/OFF operating status of every input and output circuit.

Installation and Wiring Guidelines

Field wiring connects directly to the terminal strips located along the face of the controller base. Because the input stage utilizes DC sinking circuitry, external switching devices pull the terminal voltage down toward common to register an active input: an applied potential between 0 and 7 VDC establishes the ON state, whereas 18 to 26 VDC represents the OFF state. When utilizing circuits 15 and 16 for high-speed pulse tracking, circuit 15 must be driven using an open collector transistor or compatible NPN output to ensure clean pulse transitions. Output circuits 17 through 27 switch the negative leg of user-supplied 5 to 24 VDC loads; external inductive loads such as solenoid valves and DC relay coils require transient suppression diodes installed directly across the load terminals to prevent inductive kickback from damaging the solid-state output drivers.

Compatibility and System Expansion

The IC609SJR110 functions as a self-contained controller and is fully compatible with Series One Junior programming tools, including the dedicated handheld programmer and software execution environments. In applications requiring more than the onboard 24 discrete I/O circuits, the IC609SJR110 can be expanded by attaching a Series One Junior expansion unit (such as the IC609EXP110 24 VDC sink unit) or by linking to a Series One expansion rack via dedicated expansion cabling.

FAQ

What electrical power source does the General Electric IC609SJR110 require?

The IC609SJR110 operates from a nominal 115/230 VAC line power source at 50/60 Hz.

How many built-in input and output circuits are on the IC609SJR110?

The IC609SJR110 contains 24 fixed I/O points comprising 15 DC sink inputs (circuits 0 through 16 octal) and 9 DC sink outputs (circuits 17 through 27 octal).

What are the current load ratings for the DC sink outputs on the IC609SJR110?

Outputs 17 through 23 provide up to 1.0 A continuous current with a 4 A (10 ms) inrush rating, while outputs 24 through 27 provide up to 0.5 A continuous current with a 1 A (100 ms) inrush rating.

What field device requirement applies to the high-speed counter input on circuit 15?

When circuit 15 is configured for high-speed counting, it requires an open collector field device to properly sink and pulse the 24 VDC input circuit.

Can the I/O count of the IC609SJR110 base controller be expanded?

Yes, the IC609SJR110 can expand beyond its 24 onboard I/O points by connecting a Series One Junior I/O expansion unit (such as the IC609EXP110) or interfacing with an external Series One expansion rack.
