Description

The 990-05-70-02-01 is a loop-powered vibration transmitter that integrates a non-contacting proximity probe sensor driver and analog signal conditioning electronics into a single module. It measures standard radial shaft vibration on rotating machinery and outputs a continuous 4 to 20 mA current loop signal directly to a PLC, DCS, or SCADA system. This direct-to-control architecture eliminates the necessity of a separate, dedicated monitoring rack. By utilizing eddy current measurement principles, the transmitter monitors dynamic shaft movement without mechanical wear, delivering reliable protection data for plant operations.

Features

  • Integrated driver and signal conditioner design reduces panel space requirements.
  • Direct 4-20 mA output interfaces smoothly with standard industrial control platforms.
  • Non-contacting eddy current measurement eliminates mechanical friction and wear.
  • Accessible front BNC connector delivers buffered raw vibration signals for diagnostics.
  • Solid-state circuit protection guards against wiring errors and voltage surges.
  • Robust environmental design engineered for placement in harsh industrial process areas.

Applications

  • Centrifugal air compressor vibration monitoring.
  • Small industrial fan and process blower protection.
  • Cooling tower fan mechanical protection loops.
  • Industrial centrifugal pump shaft tracking.
  • Electric motor and generator asset monitoring.
  • Hydroelectric turbine rotor displacement analysis.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mechanical Mounting: Install the transmitter securely onto a clean 35mm DIN rail inside a protective field enclosure.
  • Transducer Placement: Install the proximity probe and extension cable at the designated machine bearing housing. Maintain a minimum cable bend radius of 25.4 mm (1 in) to prevent internal core damage.
  • Cable Routing: Route the extension cable to the transmitter location. Avoid routing probe cables parallel to high-voltage power lines or variable frequency drive wiring to minimize electrical noise.
  • Coaxial Connection: Connect the probe extension cable to the coaxial connector located on the bottom of the transmitter housing.
  • Loop Wiring: Wire the 4-20mA loop power source to the transmitter terminal block. Ensure correct polarity is maintained: Terminal 1 (+) and Terminal 2 (-). Isolate the power supply before connecting any field wires.
  • Shield Grounding: Terminate the cable shields properly at the control room instrument ground only. Do not ground the shield at both ends to prevent destructive ground loops.

Can I use a 5-meter cable system with this specific transmitter?

No. The option code '70' dictates a 7.0-meter system length calibration. Using a 5.0-meter cable system will result in severe calibration and measurement errors.

What is the purpose of the BNC connector on the front?

It provides a raw, unfiltered voltage signal with a nominal scale factor of 200 mV/mil. This allows maintenance teams to connect portable data collectors for detailed vibration analysis without disturbing the 4-20mA loop.

Does this transmitter require external loop power?

Yes. It is a loop-powered device requiring an external 12 to 35 VDC power supply, which is typically provided by the DCS or PLC analog input module.
