Product Overview

The 084G2106 (084G2106) is a high-performance industrial pressure transmitter from the Danfoss EMP 2 series, engineered for reliable monitoring in demanding maritime and heavy industrial applications. With a pressure range of 0 to 4 bar (0 to 58.02 psi), this gauge reference sensor is designed to provide stable current signals for engine control, boiler feed water, and hydraulic oil systems. The 084G2106 features a robust G 1/2 process connection and an IP65 rated enclosure, ensuring consistent performance in high-vibration environments such as ship engine rooms or power plants. By delivering typical accuracy of 0.5 percent FS, this transmitter plays a critical role in preventing overpressure events and maintaining optimal fluid dynamics, directly contributing to extended equipment service life and reduced maintenance intervals.

Technical Configuration

The EMP 2 series is recognized for its heavy-duty construction and long-term stability in harsh media environments.

  • Signal Output: Utilizes a standard 4 to 20 mA current loop, optimized for long-distance transmission with low susceptibility to electromagnetic interference.

  • Clipping Protection: Features high and low clipping levels (22.4 mA and 3.6 mA) to provide clear diagnostic signaling for sensor out-of-range conditions or faults.

  • Electrical Interface: Equipped with a Pg 13.5 terminal block connection, allowing for secure and straightforward field wiring within the IP65 protective housing.

  • Media Compatibility: Designed for medium temperatures ranging from -10 to 70 deg C, with a non-flush diaphragm suitable for clean gases and liquids.

  • Safety Margin: Boasts a maximum overload pressure of 8 bar, double its operating range, to protect the sensing element from hydraulic spikes and transient pressure surges.

Technical FAQs

How do the clipping levels assist in system troubleshooting?

The 084G2106 uses a 3.6 mA low clipping and 22.4 mA high clipping level. If your PLC detects a signal below 3.8 mA or above 20.5 mA, it indicates that the transmitter is experiencing an over-range condition or a hardware malfunction, allowing for immediate automated safety protocols.

Is this transmitter suitable for installation on marine vessels?

Yes, the EMP 2 series is specifically designed for maritime and industrial use. Its heavy-duty design and terminal block connection are ideal for the high-vibration and high-humidity environments typical of shipboard machinery spaces.

Does this unit require a specific orientation for mounting?

While the transmitter can be mounted in any orientation, it is best practice to mount it with the pressure connection facing downwards. This prevents sediment or air pockets from becoming trapped in the sensor cavity, which could affect the 0.3 percent BFSL non-linearity performance.

Engineering & Installation Guide

  • Wiring and Polarity: The 084G2106 is a two-wire transmitter. Ensure the + supply is connected to the P terminal and the - common to the N terminal. Reversing polarity will not damage the unit due to integrated protection but will result in zero signal output. Use the Pg 13.5 cable gland to maintain the IP65 seal.

  • Pressure Port Sealing: When installing the G 1/2 male/female connection (EN 228-1), use a flat copper or metal-plastic sealing washer. Avoid using PTFE tape on the threads if possible, as fragments can migrate into the pressure port and block the internal diaphragm, leading to slow response times or inaccurate readings.

  • Thermal Isolation: Although the transmitter is compensated up to 70 deg C, if the medium temperature exceeds 70 deg C, use a pigtail siphon or a cooling leg to isolate the sensor from the heat. This ensures the electronics remain within the specified compensated temperature range (0 to 70 deg C) to maintain the 0.5 percent typical accuracy.
