Description

The ABB Bailey IMDSO14 Digital Output Module functions as an interface between the INFI 90 OPEN Strategic Process Management System and process field devices. It receives commands from control modules—such as the multi-function processor (MFP), multi-function controller (MFC), or logic master module (LMM)—over the I/O expander bus to switch field equipment ON or OFF. The IMDSO14 provides 16 digital outputs through solid-state circuitry, where 12 outputs are individually isolated and two pairs share positive output terminals. It handles 24 VDC or 48 VDC load voltages and serves as a direct replacement for the IMDSO04 module.

Features

  • 16 digital output channels divided into Group A and Group B
  • Solid-state open-collector switching circuitry
  • Optocouplers providing electrical isolation between module logic and process circuits
  • On-board bus fault timer to default outputs during communication loss
  • Front panel status LEDs for module health and individual output channel states

Applications

  • Switching process field devices and relays
  • Digital ON/OFF process control
  • Industrial automation and process management systems

Installation Guidelines

  • Use grounded wrist straps and anti-static procedures when handling the module to protect static-sensitive devices.
  • Set the 8-position address dipswitch (S1) to match the address defined in Function Code 83 (Specification S1) before inserting the module into the rack.
  • Ensure a dipshunt is properly installed in the I/O expander bus socket on the backplane between the control module and the output module.
  • Disconnect system power before installing dipshunts on the MMU backplane to avoid electrical shock hazards.
  • Align the module with the guide rails in the module mounting unit and slide it in until the front panel is flush; latch the two faceplate captive retaining screws.

Compliance and Certifications

  • CE Mark Declaration (EMC96 Directive 89/336/EEC: EN 50081-2, EN 50082-2)
  • CSA Certified (Ordinary nonhazardous locations per CSA C22.2 No. 1010.1-92)
  • FM Approved (Nonincendive for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D; Class II, Division 2, Groups F, G)

FAQ

What indicates normal operation on the module status LEDs?

Normal operation is indicated when the green status LED is ON and the red status LED is OFF, showing the module is enabled and communicating with the control module.

How do the outputs behave during a control module bus time-out?

If the bus clock stops for 10 milliseconds, the bus fault timer times out, turning the red status LED ON and causing digital outputs to switch to their configured default values or hold current values based on FC 83 settings.

Can this module be removed while system power is active?

The module can be removed while power is supplied, but output signals must be disabled prior to removal to prevent damage to the edge connector pins.
