Description

The IMASI23 is an intelligent analog input module that interfaces 16 analog inputs to a Harmony controller within the system architecture. Communicating over the high-speed I/O expander bus, the IMASI23 utilizes an onboard microcontroller and dedicated memory to execute input processing tasks locally—including error compensation, automatic adjustments, and conversion to engineering units—thereby offloading processing requirements from the main controller. The IMASI23 occupies a single slot in a module mounting unit (MMU) and provides isolated analog-to-digital conversion, cold junction compensation for thermocouple inputs, and built-in diagnostic testing to ensure high operational integrity in industrial control applications.

Features

  • Interfaces 16 analog inputs to Harmony controllers over the I/O expander bus
  • Onboard microcontroller and memory for local input signal processing and engineering unit conversion
  • Channel-to-channel isolation via dedicated delta-sigma A/D converters, DC/DC converters, and optocouplers
  • Cold junction temperature compensation for thermocouple inputs using termination unit RTD references
  • Integrated open input detection across millivolt, thermocouple, RTD, 1-5 VDC, and 4-20 mA input types
  • Periodic automatic self-calibration using an internal precision low-drift reference
  • Onboard 8-position dipswitch for I/O module bus address selection and diagnostic mode activation
  • Front panel LED status indicators (red/green) for operational status, diagnostic pass/fail, and bus communication
  • Single printed circuit board design with two captive front-panel locking latches for secure rack mounting

Applications

  • Distributed Control Systems (DCS) process monitoring
  • Multi-channel analog signal acquisition (thermocouple, RTD, millivolt, voltage, and current loops)
  • System expansions utilizing ABB Symphony Harmony control unit (HCU) architectures

P2 Card edge connector; interfaces to the I/O expander bus for communication with the controller
P3 Card edge connector; receives analog field inputs via NKAS01 or NKAS11 cable attached to NTAI06 termination unit

Installation Guidelines

  • Module Insertion: Slide the module into an assigned slot of a powered-down IEMMU11, IEMMU12, IEMMU21, or IEMMU22 Module Mounting Unit until card edge connectors (P1, P2, P3) seat fully into the backplane, then secure two front-panel captive latches.
  • Address Configuration: Set the unique 8-position dipswitch (S1) to configure the module address on the I/O expander bus prior to system operation.
  • Field Signal Cabling: Connect field devices to the NTAI06 termination unit terminal blocks and bridge the termination unit to connector P3 on the module using an NKAS01 or NKAS11 cable assembly.
  • Bus Isolation: Ensure the I/O expander bus dipshunt between control subsystems is properly configured or removed if subsystem separation is required.
