The Allen-Bradley 1734-IB4 is a 4-point sinking digital input module designed for the POINT I/O system. The 1734-IB4 interfaces field-side sensor devices—such as 2-wire or 3-wire proximity switches—with a central controller over I/O networks like DeviceNet, PROFIBUS, ControlNet, or EtherNet/IP via compatible adapters. Receiving 24V DC discrete signals, it produces 1 byte of input data for processor memory mapping.

Features

  • 4 sinking DC input channels arranged in 1 group of 4
  • Direct installation on DIN rail using compatible 1734 series terminal base assemblies
  • Integrated LED status indicators for network status, module status, and individual channel input status
  • Keyed insertion system to prevent improper module placement
  • Support for Removable Terminal Blocks (RTB) to allow module replacement without disturbing field wiring

Applications

  • Factory automation and process control signal acquisition
  • Interface for 2-wire and 3-wire DC proximity switches
  • Discrete limit switch and push-button input processing
  • Distributed control systems utilizing POINT I/O architecture

Installation Guidelines

  • DIN Rail Installation: Mount the module onto a zinc-plated chromate-passivated steel DIN rail (part number 199-DR1; 46277-3; EN50022) to establish proper chassis grounding. Secure the DIN rail every 200 mm (7.8 in.) and use end-anchors.
  • Enclosure Requirements: Install inside an enclosure suitable for Pollution Degree 2 industrial environments, providing an ingress protection rating of at least IP54 for hazardous location applications.
  • Mechanical Keying: Rotate the keyswitch on the mounting base to position 1 before inserting the module. Ensure the DIN rail locking screw is in the horizontal position before module insertion.
  • Wiring Safety: Ensure field-side power and backplane power are removed before inserting or removing the module or terminal block in hazardous locations to prevent electrical arcing.
  • Power Supply: Power the equipment from a SELV or PELV compliant source to comply with CE Low Voltage Directive requirements.
