The Allen-Bradley 1746-IM16 is a 16-channel digital AC input module designed for integration into SLC 500 programmable logic controller systems. The module interface processes high-voltage 200/240V AC discrete signals from field sensing devices and converts them into digital logic levels across the backplane for processing. Equipped with a removable terminal block and electro-optical isolation, the 1746-IM16 ensures reliable signal acquisition in demanding industrial automation applications.

Features

  • 16 digital AC input channels arranged in a single group with internally connected commons.
  • Removable terminal block designed for easy maintenance without disturbing field wiring.
  • Electro-optical isolation protecting control logic circuitry from high-voltage transients on I/O terminals.
  • Standard 200/240V AC signal input rating operating across a wide 170...265V AC voltage range.

Applications

  • High-voltage AC sensor signal conditioning
  • Industrial motor starter state monitoring
  • Power distribution logic feedback
  • Discrete process equipment input interface

Installation Guidelines

  • Power Disconnection: Never install, remove, or wire modules while power is applied to the chassis.
  • Enclosure Rating: Install as open-type equipment within an enclosure suitable for specific environmental conditions, rated Pollution Degree 2, Overvoltage Category II, up to 2000 m altitude.
  • ESD Protection: Handle modules using grounded wriststraps and avoid touching circuit components or backplane connectors to prevent electrostatic discharge damage.
  • Chassis Slot Restrictions: Do not install I/O modules in Slot 0; the first slot is reserved exclusively for the processor or CPU/adapter module.
  • Wiring Torque & Capacity: Use maximum 2 mm2 (14 AWG) wiring, up to 2 wires per terminal, and tighten terminal screws to a maximum torque of 0.9 Nm (8 lb-in.). Tighten terminal block retaining screws to 0.6 Nm (5.3 lb-in.).
