Description
The Allen-Bradley 1747-ASB is a high-performance SLC 500 Remote I/O Adapter Module designed to interface remote 1746 I/O chassis with a local PLC or SLC processor scanner over a Universal Remote I/O (RIO) communication link. Operating as a slave device on the RIO network and acting as the master controller for its local 1746 chassis and optional remote expansion chassis, this module manages high-speed data exchanges across the backplane without requiring complex user configuration or ladder logic programming.
Occupying slot 0 of the remote chassis where a standard SLC processor would normally reside, the 1747-ASB continuously maps discrete and analog I/O image tables between the local scanner and the remote I/O modules. Output data received across the RIO link is systematically distributed to output modules via the internal backplane, while incoming field signals from input modules are gathered and transmitted back to the primary controller, ensuring deterministic system performance in distributed industrial control architectures.
Features
- Supports high-speed Universal Remote I/O (RIO) communication links with selectable baud rates of 57.6 kbps, 115.2 kbps, and 230.4 kbps
- Occupies single slot 0 in a 1746 modular I/O chassis, functioning as the local chassis master and RIO network adapter
- Directly maps remote chassis I/O image tables to PLC-5, SLC 500, or ControlLogix RIO scanner memory structures
- Configurable via physical DIP switches for chassis size, starting logical address, rack size, and communication baud rate
- Built-in hardware diagnostics with front-panel status indicators for communication health, adapter status, and module fault monitoring
Applications
- Distributed industrial control systems requiring remote I/O drops separated from the central processor
- Plant-floor automation networks linking legacy Allen-Bradley PLC-5 or SLC 500 scanners to 1746 modular I/O racks
- Modular machine cells requiring decentralized data collection and high-speed local rack management
- Retrofitting and expansion of existing DH+ or RIO communication infrastructures without full system redesign
