Allen-Bradley 1785-L60B Enhanced PLC-5 Programmable Controller

Quantity

Product Description

The Allen-Bradley 1785-L60B is an enhanced programmable controller engineered for robust control in medium to large-scale industrial automation applications. Part of the reliable Allen-Bradley PLC-5 product line, this module provides up to 64K words of battery-backed static RAM memory and controls up to 3072 input and output signals, or up to 3072 inputs and 3072 outputs in complementary mode. Designed to sit in a local chassis slot, the 1785-L60B interfaces with remote, local, and extended-local I/O configurations, delivering rapid processing speeds and extensive communication networking capability to satisfy high-demand manufacturing operations.

System Capabilities and Communication

The 1785-L60B processor provides exceptional flexibility with its onboard physical interfaces. It features four (4) DH+/Remote I/O ports configured as either an I/O scanner or adapter, alongside two (2) programming terminals utilizing 8-pin mini-DIN circular connectors that can also support the DH+ protocol. For serial communication, a single 25-pin D-shell sub-D connector configurable for RS-232, RS-423, and RS-422A physical standards supports DF1 half-duplex, DF1 full-duplex, and ASCII communications. This makes it highly compatible with Legacy and modern automation architectures, supervisory SCADA systems, and terminal nodes.

Features

  • Expanded Capacity: Manages up to 24 I/O racks, supporting up to 93 total I/O chassis, including up to 92 remote I/O chassis.
  • Onboard Memory: Includes 64 Kilowords of standard battery-backed static RAM for user programs and system data tables.
  • EEPROM Support: Offers program backup security through option slots using 1785-ME16 (16K words), 1785-ME32 (32K words), 1785-ME64 (64K words), and 1785-ME100 memory modules.
  • Versatile Addressing: Supports 2-slot, 1-slot, and half-slot hardware-addressing modes to optimize chassis slots and coordinate combinations of 8-point, 16-point, and high-density 32-point I/O modules.
  • Clear Diagnostics: Built-in front panel LED indicators show real-time statuses, including BATT (low battery), RUN/FAULT (module status), FORCE (I/O forcing active), and COMM (Channel 0 communication).

Applications

  • Automotive assembly lines and manufacturing cells
  • Water and wastewater treatment facility control
  • Food and beverage batch processing
  • Material handling and conveyor systems
  • Power generation and distribution auxiliary control

Installation Guidelines

  1. Chassis Placement: Install the processor in the leftmost slot of your 1771 Universal I/O chassis. Align the card guides and slide the module firmly into place until the locking latches click.
  2. Backpanel Spacing & Cooling: Maintain proper clearances around the I/O chassis to allow air circulation. Operating temperatures must remain between 0 and 60 degC to prevent localized thermal stress.
  3. Grounding: Securely connect the chassis ground terminal to a low-impedance earth ground path. Ensure all metal backpanels are cleaned of paint and properly bonded.
  4. Cabling and Media:
    • For DH+/RIO networks, use 1770-CD or Belden 9463 blue hose cables.
    • Ensure standard termination resistors (150 Ohm or 82 Ohm, depending on baud rate) are installed on both physical ends of the trunk line.
    • Route communication cables away from high-voltage motor lines to mitigate EMI/RFI noise.
  5. Battery Installation: Prior to commissioning, connect the internal 1770-XYC lithium battery keyway connector to prevent memory loss during offline states.
