Description

Designed for reliable industrial fieldbus integration, the Beckhoff BK8000 Bus Coupler links modular Beckhoff Bus Terminals directly to RS485 network architectures. This interface module processes up to 512 digital input/output channels and 256 analog input/output channels, translating physical peripheral signals into the open, documented RS485 serial communication protocol. System parameters and node addressing are easily set up using the KS2000 configuration software, ensuring seamless commissioning and diagnostics.

The BK8000 acts as the central decentralized head station, managing the internal K-bus system and distributing power to downstream terminal slices. With integrated galvanic isolation separating the fieldbus connection, the internal electronic components, and the 24 V DC power contacts, this bus coupler delivers excellent noise immunity and operational stability in demanding electrical environments.

Features

  • Efficient connection of up to 64 local Beckhoff Bus Terminals to an RS485 fieldbus network.
  • Direct configuration and advanced diagnostic mapping via the KS2000 software interface.
  • Galvanic isolation up to 500 V between power contacts, internal supply voltage, and the fieldbus interface.
  • Integrated power supply terminal designed to supply the internal K-bus with up to 1750 mA.
  • Support for standard serial transfer media via screened, twisted-pair copper cabling.

Applications

  • Industrial process automation and distributed control systems (DCS).
  • HVAC and building automation networks utilizing RS485 multidrop configurations.
  • Machine building and production lines requiring decentralized input/output blocks.
  • Energy management and remote telemetry systems.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mounting: Install on standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) in a clean, dry control cabinet. The installation position is variable, but vertical alignment is recommended for optimal convection cooling.
  • Wiring: Always use shielded, twisted-pair copper cables (recommended cross-section: 2 x 0.25 mm²) for the RS485 communication line to prevent electromagnetic interference.
  • Grounding: Ensure the DIN rail and the PE (protective earth) connection points are bonded to a low-impedance ground plane.
  • K-bus Protection: Ensure the total current consumption of connected Bus Terminals does not exceed the maximum K-bus current supply of 1750 mA. Install a power feed terminal if current requirements exceed this limit.

Compliance and Certifications

  • CE: Yes
  • UL: Yes
  • ATEX Markings: II 3 G Ex ec IIC T4 Gc
  • IECEx Markings: Ex ec IIC T4 Gc
  • Marine Approval: DNV GL
