Description
The BECKHOFF BK9000 is an Ethernet TCP/IP Bus Coupler designed to link physical Beckhoff Bus Terminals (K-bus system) to industrial Ethernet networks. Operating as an I/O device, the coupler manages communication between the master controller and modular digital or analog peripheral terminals, converting the fieldbus signals into the internal, terminal-independent K-bus representation.
This coupler supports automatic transmission rate recognition of 10/100 Mbit/s, facilitating simple integration into existing network topologies. System configuration and parameterization are managed via the Beckhoff KS2000 configuration software, which can connect through the Ethernet port or the integrated serial interface. The unit features an integrated power supply designed to power both the coupler electronics and the connected K-bus terminals.
Designed for compact control cabinet mounting, the BECKHOFF BK9000 provides direct connection for up to 64 Bus Terminals, and can be extended further using K-bus extension terminals. It features standard RJ45 networking hardware, mechanical rail mounting, and status LEDs for network diagnostics, power status, and terminal bus integrity.

Installation Guidelines
- Verify that the incoming power supply matches the nominal 24 V DC specification of the BECKHOFF BK9000.
- Ensure the system is completely de-energized before mounting, wiring, or configuring terminal connections.
- Mount the coupler vertically onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715) inside a clean, dry, IP20-rated enclosure.
- Slide adjacent Bus Terminals onto the rail and align them with the coupler, ensuring the K-bus locking mechanisms click into engagement.
- Connect the network cable to the RJ45 port using appropriate Category 5 cabling for 100 Mbit/s operation.
- Wire the 24 V DC power supply to the designated terminals, checking polarity and functional earth grounding.
- Energize the system and verify unit status using the diagnostic LEDs before commissioning the fieldbus interface.
Replacement Recommendations
When replacing a BECKHOFF BK9000 coupler, document the existing terminal ordering layout and note the exact configuration parameters, IP address settings, or subnet masks stored in the system. Ensure all power supplies are isolated before sliding terminals away from the old coupler. Set the same hardware configurations, node addresses, or software-defined parameters on the replacement unit before powering the K-bus assembly.
