Description

Designed to expand physical operator control capabilities on Beckhoff human-machine interfaces, the C9900-E878 push-button extension provides integrated tactile inputs directly adjacent to the industrial display. This extension module is engineered for mounting on the right-hand side of CP6x32-00xx and CP7x32-00xx Control Panels and Panel PCs featuring a 15-inch display configuration without an integrated keyboard.

The unit combines digital integration with traditional hardwired fail-safe pathways. It houses 18 individual push-button keys outfitted with integrated signal lamps (Siemens Signum square, 30 x 30 mm layout) and a dedicated Siemens Signum emergency stop key. Signal transmission is handled flexibly: primary button operations and all signal lamp controls are transmitted over CP-Link or USB. For safety-critical integrations and independent control loops, each push-button provides a second normally-open contact routed directly to an onboard terminal row for local hardwiring.

Features

  • Specifically designed for right-side mounting on Beckhoff CP6x32-00xx and CP7x32-00xx 15-inch displays.
  • Equipped with 18 Siemens Signum square (30 x 30 mm) push-buttons with built-in signal lamps.
  • Integrated Siemens Signum emergency stop switch, designed for direct external hardwiring.
  • Customizable label inserts under push-button caps to allow application-specific marking of control functions.
  • Dual-channel connection capability: digital transmission via CP-Link/USB alongside a local terminal row for direct wiring of secondary normally-open contacts.
  • Signal lamps operate exclusively through digital communication channels via the CP-Link or USB interface.

Applications

  • Operator panels on automotive assembly lines.
  • Machine-level HMI control stations in packaging and materials handling.
  • Process control desks requiring physical emergency stop and manual cycle start/stop overrides.
  • Specialty machinery where software touchscreens are complemented by tactile operator controls.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mounting: Mechanically align and secure the extension unit to the right-hand chassis mounting points of the compatible 15-inch control panel. Ensure gaskets are seated correctly to maintain ingress protection ratings.
  • Wiring Safety: Route the emergency stop circuit separately from communication cables to prevent electromagnetic interference and comply with safety loop regulatory standards.
  • Grounding: Ensure the control panel chassis is properly grounded to the machine frame to provide effective shielding for the CP-Link/USB communication lines.

Which Beckhoff panels are compatible with the C9900-E878 extension?

The C9900-E878 is compatible with Beckhoff CP6x32-00xx and CP7x32-00xx Control Panels and Panel PCs featuring a 15-inch display configuration without a built-in keyboard.

How are the push-buttons wired to the controller?

They feature dual wiring paths: primary signals are transmitted digitally via CP-Link or USB, while a secondary normally-open contact for each button is routed to a terminal block for direct physical wiring.

Can the signal lamps be controlled via physical wiring?

No. The signal lamps inside the 18 push-buttons are controlled and transmitted exclusively via the USB or CP-Link connection.

How is the Emergency Stop switch wired?

The Siemens Signum Emergency Stop key is directly wireable via dedicated terminals, allowing it to be integrated directly into a physical safety relay or safety PLC circuit.
