What Is SCADA? Supervisory Control Without Replacing the PLC
SCADA sits above PLCs and RTUs: it acquires field data, alarms operators, and issues supervisory commands across plants and remote assets—without replacing local deterministic control.

Optimized for space-restricted industrial applications, the Beckhoff CP6702-0021-0060 functions as a durable, cabinet-mounted operator interface with integrated processing capabilities. This compact unit combines a high-resolution 15-inch visualization terminal with an embedded PC architecture, allowing control and monitoring tasks to execute directly on-site. Housing an efficient Intel Atom x5-E3930 dual-core processor, the platform is fully engineered for reliability within high-vibration and variable-temperature manufacturing environments.

The CP6702 series uses CFast cards for data security and shock resistance. When migrating older configurations from PC systems utilizing legacy IDE-based CompactFlash (CF) interfaces, check software drive definitions and UEFI settings, as modern CFast controllers boot natively under SATA protocols.
This system relies on convection cooling via its metal casing. In warm control enclosures, maintain a vertical physical clearance of at least 50 mm above and below the rear housing. Operating continuously at ambient temperatures near 55 Celsius without adequate ventilation may lead to thermal throttling of the dual-core processor, impacting real-time execution parameters in TwinCAT.
To protect against electrical noise, establish a low-resistance connection between the chassis grounding stud and the main control cabinet’s functional earth system. Avoid routing communication cables (LAN and DVI) parallel to high-power motor lines inside the wire management duct to prevent electromagnetic coupling.
Prepare the panel cutout to match the dimensions required for a standard 15-inch industrial screen. Ensure the mounting surfaces are deburred and dry.
Insert the device into the cutout from the front, taking care not to pinch the peripheral rubber gasket, which maintains the IP65 seal.
Engage the built-in, pull-out clamping levers from the rear. Tighten them evenly to clamp the device securely against the panel plate.
Connect the functional grounding line to the dedicated grounding point on the sheet-steel rear cover using a 2.5 mm2 or larger conductor.
Plug in the wired power supply terminal block, verify polarities, and switch on the main 24 V DC power.
