What Is SCADA? Supervisory Control Without Replacing the PLC
SCADA sits above PLCs and RTUs: it acquires field data, alarms operators, and issues supervisory commands across plants and remote assets—without replacing local deterministic control.

Engineered to serve as a compact DIN-rail industrial controller, the Beckhoff CX1020-0010 delivers dedicated Celeron M processing power for complex TwinCAT 2 automation environments. This control module is optimized for medium-to-high performance automation installations requiring direct mounting in the electrical enclosure. By integrating high-efficiency silicon into a robust fanless enclosure, the CPU delivers solid runtime performance for PLC, NC PTP, and NC I tasks. The unit communicates natively across fieldbuses using attached power supply modules, serving as an intelligent hub in modern manufacturing lines.

|---|---|
| Ethernet Port 1 (RJ45) | Local industrial Network connection, 10/100 Mbit/s (internal switch channel 1) |
| Ethernet Port 2 (RJ45) | Local industrial Network connection, 10/100 Mbit/s (internal switch channel 2) |
| Compact Flash Slot | Primary boot and runtime medium (stores Windows OS and TwinCAT system binaries) |
| PC/104 Interface | 16-bit ISA system bus linking CPU logic with adjacent I/O modules and power supplies |
The system is built on the 16-bit PC/104 system bus, requiring connection to a CX1100 series power supply (such as CX1100-0001, -0002, or -0003) to enable system bus logic. If migrating from a CX1010 platform to this CPU, verify total system power budgets, as the Celeron M core requires up to 11 W of power, which is significantly higher than the low-power Geode processors.
Because this is a passively cooled, fanless unit, mounting must remain strictly vertical on the DIN rail to support natural convection. Do not mount the unit horizontally, as this will lead to localized thermal pockets and automatic clock throttling under high calculation loads. Ensure at least 30 mm of free air space above and below the module enclosure.
When flashing or changing the Compact Flash card, only use industrial-grade SLC cards tested and formatted for Beckhoff runtimes. Standard commercial MLC cards are highly susceptible to write-cycle exhaustion under continuous logging environments, leading to blue screens or loss of non-volatile variables upon system reboots.
Always isolate the physical system power supply before adding, removing, or wiring any PC/104 or I/O module extensions. Live plugging or unplugging of modules across the ISA bus will cause non-recoverable physical damage to the internal logic boards of both the CPU and adjacent interfaces.
