Description

Integrating separate EtherCAT control networks requires reliable, real-time data synchronization. The Beckhoff EL6695 serves as a high-performance EtherCAT bridge terminal, enabling bidirectional data exchange between two independent EtherCAT masters. Operating with a primary interface powered via the internal E-bus and a secondary interface utilizing a dedicated 100 Mbit/s RJ45 physical layer, this terminal bridges process data across separate networks without compromising deterministic system performance.

This bridge module is equipped with advanced Distributed Clocks (DC) support, allowing synchronization of subordinate clocks across network boundaries to a common reference clock. System engineers can configure process image sizes of up to 3 kbytes in each direction, depending on the master capability. The terminal also acts as a network gateway for mailbox protocols, supporting AoE (ADS over EtherCAT), EoE (Ethernet over EtherCAT), FoE (File over EtherCAT), and VoE (Vendor-specific over EtherCAT) transmissions.

Features

  • Dual-sided communication interface linking primary E-bus and secondary 100 Mbit/s RJ45 Ethernet ports.
  • Supports high-accuracy Distributed Clock (DC) synchronization across independent EtherCAT master segments.
  • Flexible PDO mapping supporting process image sizes up to 3 kbytes per direction (TwinCAT systems support up to 1400 bytes).
  • Comprehensive mailbox protocol support including AoE, EoE, FoE, and VoE.
  • Galvanic electrical isolation up to 500 V between the primary E-bus and the secondary side.
  • Integrated status LEDs for hardware diagnostics and network status monitoring.
  • Compact 24 mm terminal housing designed for standard 35 mm DIN rail mounting with double slot and key connection.

Applications

  • Synchronized multi-master systems in automotive assembly and advanced manufacturing lines.
  • Linking independent safety-rated and standard EtherCAT segments.
  • Process integration between packaging machines, test benches, and main supervisory PLCs.
  • Modular production cell networking requiring distributed clock consistency.

Connections and Interfaces

Interface Type Function
Primary E-Bus Connection Data routing and power supply for primary internal logic (via terminal block side contacts).
Secondary RJ45 Ports (In/Out) EtherCAT interface for connection to the secondary master network. Supports 100BASE-TX Ethernet lines.
External Power Terminal Push-in terminal connection for 24 V DC secondary power supply.

Installation Guidelines

  • Mount the unit on a standard 35 mm DIN rail conforming to EN 60715, ensuring the lock is securely engaged.
  • Utilize the integrated double slot and key connection for stable side-by-side terminal mounting.
  • Ensure proper grounding path through the DIN rail to guarantee correct EMC performance.
  • Maintain sufficient clear ventilation space around the module when operating near the upper temperature limit of +55 degC.
  • Do not exceed the specified 500 V electrical isolation limit between the primary E-bus and secondary circuits during wiring.
