Description
Direct field-level control of high-current actuators is executed efficiently using the Beckhoff ER2028-1032 EtherCAT Box. Housed in a highly durable, zinc die-cast enclosure, this distributed I/O module features 8 digital outputs designed to switch electrical loads directly in demanding industrial environments. By mounting directly onto machines or process equipment, the module eliminates the need for protective control cabinets, reducing wiring overhead and simplifying system topology.
The ER2028-1032 provides up to 2.8 A of output current per channel, making it ideal for driving heavier loads such as solenoid valves, contactors, auxiliary relays, small motors, and signaling devices. It interfaces seamlessly with EtherCAT networks using M12 industrial connections, offering high-speed real-time communication, robust diagnostics, and channel-level short-circuit protection to ensure continuous system availability.
Features
- Provides 8 robust digital outputs (24 V DC) supporting resistive, inductive, and lamp loads.
- Delivers up to 2.8 A per channel with an aggregate sum current limit of 16 A.
- Individually short-circuit proof outputs protect system electronics from field faults.
- Utilizes heavy-duty M12 (A-coded) connectors for secure output cabling.
- Features high-speed EtherCAT interface via 4-pin, D-coded M12 sockets.
- Rugged zinc die-cast housing ensures protection under severe physical and environmental stress.
- Integrated 7/8" power connectors facilitate straightforward supply daisy-chaining.
Applications

Installation Guidelines
-
Mounting: Secure the zinc die-cast module directly to a flat machine surface using 2 fixing holes for M3 screws (3.5 mm diameter) or 2 fixing holes for M4 screws (4.5 mm diameter).
-
Grounding: Ensure the metallic housing has a low-impedance connection to the machine ground/PE to maintain EMC immunity.
-
Connector Torque: Tighten all M12 and 7/8" connectors to the manufacturer-specified torque to guarantee IP67 protection against moisture and dust ingress. Put protective caps on any unused ports.
-
Cable Routing: Avoid routing communication cables parallel to high-voltage AC power lines to prevent electromagnetic interference.
