Description

Decentralized automation tasks require rugged hardware capable of operating outside traditional control cabinets. The Beckhoff IP3112-B518 Fieldbus Box meets this demand by providing direct connection of peripheral signals to CANopen networks in harsh industrial environments. By housing the communication and I/O interface in a compact, environmentally sealed module, this device minimizes cabling effort and reduces cabinet space requirements.

Operating as a high-performance CANopen node, the IP3112-B518 supports up to 16 send and 16 receive Process Data Objects (PDOs), enabling highly flexible data transmission. It features advanced CANopen communication profiles including life guarding, node guarding, emergency object handling, variable mapping, and store/restore parameters. Configuration can be executed either via the KS2000 service software or directly from the master controller using Service Data Objects (SDOs). The integrated M12 T-connector simplifies bus cabling by allowing direct loop-through of the network medium without additional external splitters.

Features

  • Direct integration into CANopen industrial networks.
  • Supports up to 16 send and 16 receive Process Data Objects (PDOs) for flexible data mapping.
  • Automatic detection of network data transfer rates from 10 kbaud up to 1 Mbaud.
  • Robust environmental protection class IP65, IP66, and IP67, enabling cabinet-free mounting.
  • Integrated M12 T-connector interface for efficient bus wiring and daisy-chaining.
  • Comprehensive diagnostics via built-in node guarding, life guarding, and emergency object services.

Applications

  • Automotive manufacturing and assembly lines.
  • Material handling systems and industrial conveyors.
  • Wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Food processing and packaging machinery.
  • Distributed sensor/actuator networks in heavy machine manufacturing.

What is the primary function of the Beckhoff IP3112-B518?

The Beckhoff IP3112-B518 is a decentralized CANopen Fieldbus Box designed to connect digital or analog I/O peripheral signals directly to a CANopen network without requiring an electrical control cabinet.

What is the protection rating of this module and where can it be installed?

The module features an IP65/66/67 rating conforming to EN 60529, allowing it to be installed directly on machines in wet, dusty, or highly demanding industrial environments.

How are the bus connections and power configured on the IP3112-B518?

It uses an integrated M12 T-connector (1 x 5-pin plug and 1 x 5-pin socket) for the CANopen bus connection, and M8 connectors (1 x 4-pin male feed, 1 x 4-pin female downstream) for power supply routing.
