Product Overview

The FC-051P4K0T4E20HXBXCXXXSXXX (136N8931) is a rugged and highly efficient VLT® Micro Drive FC 51 designed by Danfoss to provide high-density motor control in a compact chassis. Delivering 4.0 kW (5.0 HP) of power, this frequency converter is optimized for simple automation tasks where reliability is paramount but space is limited, such as in conveyor systems, fan units, and industrial pumps. The FC-051P4K0T4E20HXBXCXXXSXXX is a cost-effective solution that does not sacrifice durability, featuring factory-coated PCBs for protection against moisture and dust. Its integrated brake chopper allows for precision control over decelerating loads, making it an ideal choice for machinery requiring rapid stop cycles or controlled descent.

Technical Configuration

The VLT® Micro Drive platform is engineered for maximum versatility with a minimal footprint. This specific 4.0 kW variant operates on a three-phase 380 - 480 VAC supply. A key characteristic of the 136N8931 is the "HX" configuration, meaning it is supplied without an RFI filter, making it suitable for IT mains (isolated terrestrial networks) or applications where external filtering is already provided. The drive includes a built-in Brake Chopper (B Option) to dissipate regenerative energy through an external resistor. Furthermore, the "C" option indicates Coated PCBs, providing enhanced protection for the internal electronics in environments with high humidity or airborne contaminants, ensuring a longer service life compared to non-coated alternatives.

Technical FAQs

Why would I choose a drive without an RFI filter (HX)?

Drives without internal RFI filters are primarily used on IT grids (isolated networks) where a filter to ground could cause insulation monitoring issues. Additionally, if you are installing the drive in a system that already utilizes a large central RFI filter at the cabinet entry, the 136N8931 provides a more economical solution by avoiding redundant filtering components.

How does the Coated PCB benefit my facility?

Coated PCBs protect the sensitive surface-mount components from "Pollution Degree 3" conditions, which include non-conductive dust and high humidity. This is essential for maintaining the 4.0 kW output performance in industrial environments like wood processing, textiles, or food and beverage packaging.

Can I operate this drive without an LCP (Local Control Panel)?

Yes. While this unit is shipped without an LCP (Code X), the drive can be commissioned via the RS485 port using a PC and the Danfoss MCT 10 Set-up Software. For manual on-site control, a plug-in LCP 11 or LCP 12 can be purchased separately and used across multiple Micro Drive units.

Engineering & Installation Guide

  • Brake Resistor Integration: To utilize the integrated brake chopper for rapid braking, connect a suitable external brake resistor to terminals +BR and -BR. Ensure the resistor is mounted outside the drive enclosure or in a well-ventilated area, as it will generate significant heat during motor deceleration.

  • Network Compatibility: Because this unit lacks an internal RFI filter, it is critical to ensure that cable routing for the 380 - 480 VAC mains and the motor lines follows strict EMC guidelines if the system is installed near sensitive electronics. Use shielded motor cables to minimize radiated interference.

  • Side-by-Side Mounting: The FC 51 series is designed for side-by-side mounting, meaning no horizontal clearance is required between drives in a control cabinet. However, ensure at least 100 mm of vertical clearance above and below the 3.0 kg unit to allow for unimpeded cooling airflow through the heatsink.
