Description

The GE Fanuc IC220ALG220 is a 2-channel analog voltage and current input module designed for integration within the VersaPoint modular I/O system. It acquires analog measurement signals from 2-wire and 3-wire sensors, converting continuous field signals into 15-bit signed numerical values for process logic processing. The module provides independent channel configuration, allowing each single-ended input to be assigned to separate voltage or current measuring ranges.

Featuring a fast A/D conversion time of approximately 120 us and a process data update time under 1.5 ms for both channels, the IC220ALG220 maintains high-speed data acquisition across industrial environments. The internal processing architecture utilizes an on-board microprocessor with multiplexed analog-to-digital conversion, supported by an optocoupler and DC/DC converter to ensure galvanic isolation between the local bus logic and the I/O processing circuitry.

Communication across the local bus utilizes 4 bytes of input address data and 4 bytes of output address data. The module includes built-in bus diagnostics via a green front-panel LED indicator and transmits comprehensive channel error status codes directly through input data words to alert the controller of conditions such as overrange, underrange, open circuit, or invalid configuration.

Installation Guidelines

1. Verify system power is switched off before inserting or removing the module from the VersaPoint DIN rail assembly.
2. Snap the module onto the standard DIN rail and ensure proper keying and electrical engagement with adjacent local bus elements.
3. Plug the required IC220TBK061 I/O terminal strip firmly into the front connector housing.
4. To maintain thermal performance and prevent excess heat accumulation from bus currents, place analog modules to the right end of the main circuit segment.
5. Wire sensors using shielded, twisted-pair cables, securing the shield drain wire to terminal clamps 1.4 or 2.4 to establish low-impedance contact with Functional Earth (FE) ground.
6. Ensure independent power terminals are used for 24 VDC supplies to maintain complete galvanic isolation between the local bus logic and field I/O circuitry.
7. Do not apply voltages exceeding +/-5 V to a current input terminal, as currents above +/-100 mA can damage internal shunt components.

Configuration Guidelines

1. Select current or voltage operation physically by connecting field wiring to either the voltage terminals (+U1/+U2) or current terminals (+I1/+I2). Do not apply voltage and current signals simultaneously to the same channel.
2. Configure the 2-word process output data sent from the logic controller during each scan to establish channel settings.
3. Set bit 15 of the output control word to 1 to transmit custom configuration parameter data; setting bit 15 to 0 applies default settings (0 to 10 V, 16-fold filtering, signed 15-bit format).
4. Set filter bits (bits 9 and 8) to 00 for 16-fold averaging or 01 to disable digital filtering.
5. Set format bits (bits 5 and 4) to 00 for Default signed 15-bit resolution or 11 for Standardized Representation.
6. Set measuring range bits (bits 3-0) to select specific ranges (0000 for 0 to 10 V, 0001 for +/-10 V, 1000 for 0 to 20 mA, 1001 for +/-20 mA, or 1010 for 4 to 20 mA).
7. Note that after initial power-up or channel re-configuration, the input data will report fault code 8004H (measured value invalid) for up to 1 second while the module initializes.
