Description

The GE Multilin UR-8FV operates as a specialized analog measurement interface component within the Universal Relay (UR) platform, engineered to scale or replace alternating current (AC) power tracking cards. This hardware assembly serves to capture primary network data by integrating three independent 1A/5A phase current transformers (CTs), one designated 1A/5A ground current transformer (CT), and a four-terminal voltage transformer (VT) within a singular modular footprint. Implemented across utility switchgear and heavy industrial power grids, the GE Multilin UR-8FV translates high-voltage and high-current waveforms down to instrumentation-level electrical parameters, providing the main protective chassis with accurate real-time telemetry required for fundamental power system calculation, automated protection tripping, and continuous line health monitoring.

Features

  • Combined Analog Measurement: Integrates 3 phase CT inputs, 1 ground CT input, and a 4-terminal VT interface within one modular assembly.
  • Dual-Ratio Secondary Inputs: Supports both 1A and 5A standard secondary current transformer links to ensure broad field interoperability.
  • AC Parameter Tracking: Continuously captures three-phase and ground current trends alongside bus/line voltage waveforms.
  • Substation Grid Isolation: Provides continuous galvanic isolation between destructive line transients and sensitive microprocessor processing layers.
  • Unified Software Configuration: Fully integrated with the EnerVista UR setup interface for synchronized calibration, scaling adjustments, and event mapping.

Applications

  • Utility substation line measurement and feeder monitoring networks.
  • Dual-source power line or generator synchronism verification schemes.
  • Standard phase and residual ground overcurrent protection coordination.
  • High-voltage industrial motor control and asset management systems.

Installation Guidelines

Backplane Mounting

Ensure the protective relay chassis is completely powered down before servicing. Align the module card perfectly with the chosen rear-panel slot track on the Universal Relay housing and slide the component forward until it registers securely with the internal active backplane interface.

Current Transformer Shorting

All current transformer secondary inputs must be routed through an external mechanical shorting block array prior to making connections with the rear terminal points. Never allow a current transformer secondary circuit to become open-circuited while primary grid load current is flowing.

Conductor Sizing

The terminal blocks associated with this measurement module accommodate a maximum wire cross-section of 10 American Wire Gauge (AWG). For typical standard substation installations, the use of 12 American Wire Gauge (AWG) copper conductor cabling rated for a minimum temperature threshold of 90 degC is recommended.

Electrical Isolation

Keep all low-voltage analog terminal runs separated from noisy digital communication buses or unshielded auxiliary DC control wiring loops to prevent induced magnetic cross-talk from degrading accuracy calculations.
