SCR or PWM? Choosing a Drive for Brushed DC Motors
SCR and PWM drives regulate brushed DC motors in different ways. This comparison covers torque quality, speed range, reversal, braking, electrical noise, thermal behavior, feedback, and retrofit...
The General Electric IC660BBD120 is a high-speed counter block designed for industrial automation applications requiring direct processing of rapid pulse signals up to 200 kHz. As part of the Genius I/O product line, this module performs high-speed counting, frequency measurement, and pulse evaluation independently without placing processing overhead on the main CPU.
The unit features 12 digital inputs and 4 solid-state outputs, alongside a dedicated +5 VDC output and a CMOS/TTL-compatible oscillator output. It supports flexible configuration options to operate as four identical independent 16-bit simple counters (Type A), two independent 24-bit counters (Type B), or one complex 24-bit differential counter (Type C). Direct I/O processing enables the block to sense incoming pulses, evaluate counts against programmable presets, and trigger outputs autonomously.

Terminals 1 through 4 provide connections for the Genius serial communication bus, supporting shielded twisted-pair cabling and terminating resistors at bus ends. Terminals 5 through 46 are allocated for field wiring, accommodating power supplies, discrete sensor inputs, encoder signals, and output load connections depending on whether the block is configured for Type A, B, or C operation. A dedicated grounding screw ensures proper chassis and shield bonding.
The unit is classified as open equipment and must be housed inside an appropriate protective electrical enclosure with adequate ventilation clearance of at least 2 inches above and below the block. Secure the module using 8-32 mounting hardware with star washers to guarantee ground integrity. Connect the dedicated green ground screw directly to the system ground using a minimum AWG 12 wire lead.
