Description

The General Electric IS215VAMBH1A is an acoustic monitoring card assembly module manufactured by GE for the Mark VI turbine control system. Designed to interface with up to two TAMB terminal boards, the IS215VAMBH1A provides eighteen channels of signal conditioning and acoustic monitoring for industrial gas turbines. It processes dynamic pressure signals to detect acoustic oscillations and combustion instabilities.

The module incorporates high-impedance DC bias detection to monitor open connections between TAMB terminal boards and charge amplifiers, with DC bias control supporting RETx, SIGx, and return line options as well as 28 V bias or ground applied to the signal line. Each monitoring channel outputs a buffered BNC signal representing the input signal minus the DC bias. The hardware includes a front faceplate with status LEDs, two D-type cable connectors, two rear backplane connectors, vertical pin connectors, integrated circuits including Xilinx FPGAs, two inductor coils, and nine 3-pin jumpers.

Features

  • Provides 18 channels of signal conditioning and 18 channels of acoustic monitoring
  • High-impedance DC bias detection for identifying open connections to charge amplifiers
  • Configurable DC bias options supporting 28 V bias or ground applied to signal lines
  • Buffered BNC signal outputs for each channel (input signal minus DC bias)
  • Integrated A/D compensation auto-calibration comparing analog channels to a precision voltage reference
  • Hardware channel gain adjustment with four options (1, 2, 4, and 8)
  • 40 ms frame rate updates for signal space variables used by application software
  • Offline and online hardware diagnostic testing capabilities
  • Customizable two-level system limit checking with reset via RESET SYS
  • Current-limited +24 V DC power supply outputs for PCB sensors per channel

Applications

  • Frame 6 gas turbine acoustic monitoring
  • Frame 7 gas turbine acoustic monitoring
  • Frame 9 gas turbine acoustic monitoring
  • GE Mark VI turbine control systems

Installation Guidelines

  • Sensor Power-Up Sequence: Upon power-up, the continuous current selection signal (CCSELx) must be set to False (logic-level low) to deselect the continuous current output on the SIGx line until configuration parameters are loaded.
  • Jumper Configuration: Ensure the nine 3-pin jumpers are set correctly based on system return signal requirements (connecting RETx to PCOM via the middle pin).
  • Terminal Board Interfacing: Connect the module to one or two TAMB terminal boards using the front panel D-type cable connectors.

FAQ

What function does the A/D compensation feature perform on the module?

The A/D compensation auto-calibration function eliminates gain or offset errors caused by component variations by comparing each analog channel against a high-precision voltage reference gold standard channel.

What do the front panel LED indicators signify during operation?

A flashing green LED indicates normal RUN state, a solid red LED indicates a FAIL condition, and a solid orange LED indicates an active diagnostic alarm.

Does changing the hardware gain parameter alter the calculated signal level?

No, because the firmware divides the signal by the gain factor to maintain a net gain of 1, keeping the estimated signal level constant regardless of the selected gain setting.
