Product Overview

The KL9560 (KL9560) is a specialized power supply unit terminal designed to provide an isolated 24 VDC output from a standard 24 VDC input within the Beckhoff Bus Terminal system. Unlike standard power feed terminals that simply pass through the field voltage, the KL9560 incorporates a high-grade DC/DC converter to create a galvanically isolated voltage source. This module is essential for powering sensitive analog sensors, high-precision measuring transducers, or specialized electronics that require a "clean" voltage supply, free from the electrical noise and ground loops common on the main industrial power contacts. With a 1,500 V AC insulation voltage between the field and K-bus, it ensures maximum protection for the central control logic.

Technical Configuration

The hardware architecture of the KL9560 is optimized for stability and diagnostic visibility. It provides an output current of up to 0.1 A, featuring full short-circuit protection with an automatic restart capability once the fault is cleared. A key technical advantage is the integration of diagnostics into the process image, allowing the controller to monitor the health of the isolated supply in real-time. The unit achieves approximately 85% efficiency and is housed in a compact 12 mm polycarbonate shell. It is certified for demanding marine applications (DNV GL) and hazardous areas (ATEX), making it a reliable choice for offshore platforms and chemical processing environments where signal integrity is a safety requirement.

Technical FAQs

Why use the KL9560 instead of a standard power feed terminal?

Standard power feed terminals (like the KL9100) share a common ground and electrical potential with all other modules on the power rail. The KL9560 provides a separate, isolated 24 VDC circuit. This is critical when using sensors that are sensitive to ground potential differences or high-frequency switching noise from nearby motor drives.

What happens if the 0.1 A output current is exceeded?

The terminal is short-circuit proof. If the current reaches approximately 0.15 A, the module will shut down to protect its internal DC/DC converter. Once the overload or short circuit is removed, the KL9560 will automatically restart and restore the 24 VDC output.

Can I monitor the power status from my PLC?

Yes. The KL9560 provides diagnostic data directly in the process image. This allows the PLC to detect a loss of output voltage or a fault condition and trigger an alarm or safe-state routine.

Engineering & Installation Guide

  • Load Calculation: Ensure the total current draw of the connected devices does not exceed 100 mA (0.1 A). This terminal is designed for signal-level power (sensors, encoders, small relays) rather than high-power actuators or valves.

  • Grounding for Isolation: To maintain the benefit of the 500 V galvanic isolation, do not bridge the output 0V of the KL9560 back to the main system 0V. Doing so would negate the electrical isolation and could reintroduce the noise the terminal is designed to block.

  • Hazardous Area Compliance: For ATEX Zone 2 installations (Ex nA), ensure the module is installed in an IP54-rated enclosure. Check that all terminal connections are tightened and that ferrules are used for stranded wires to prevent sparking due to vibration.

  • Wiring Precision: Use the spring-actuated terminals for a vibration-proof connection. A stripping length of 8 to 9 mm is required. For analog applications, use shielded cables for the output voltage and ground the shield at a single point to ensure the highest signal-to-noise ratio.
