The 171CBU98090 serves as a direct upgrade path for older Concept-based Modicon Momentum processors (such as the 171CCC96020 or 171CCC98020). It allows users to transition their existing Momentum I/O hardware into the modern Unity Pro / EcoStruxure Control Expert software platform without replacing field wiring or I/O bases.
Note that the onboard RS232/RS485 serial port is non-isolated. When connecting to long-distance serial networks or devices located in electrically noisy environments, the use of an external optical isolator is highly recommended to prevent ground loop currents from damaging the processor's communication interface.
Before deploying the processor to an active network, configure the IP address parameters using a BootP/DHCP server or directly via the USB programming interface. Ensure that shielded twisted-pair (STP) Cat5e or Cat6 cabling is used for the Ethernet connection, and verify that the shield is properly grounded at the switch end to minimize electromagnetic interference.
